So I bought a Dreamcast today...
I got it for $35 plus 12 games that I'm going to sell, because I will never play them.
Now, what shmups should I get for it?

Radirgy, Psyvariar 2, Giga Wing 2, Ikaruga and Border Down are the ones that should be priority IMO.
But there's a whole lot of cool shmups on the DC except for these, just grab all you can find and enjoy
you can't go wrong with a DC and shmups.
(And what are the 12 games you'll be selling? Just curious

Wow. Congrats. I love that system. I keep it hooked up next to my PS3. Anyway, check the manufacture date, too. If it's made before November 2000, you can boot from CD-Rs. There's a whole boat load of SNES and NES emus for it. I enjoy DreamSNES. I can fit the emulator and about 40 games onto one CD. It's cool to not have to lug around my SNES collection when i go on trips.

Zero Gunner 2... and umm... Zero Gunner 2.
Just get all of them.
EDIT: And while not a shooter, you should try and get a hold of Cosmic Smash. One of my favs.

I don't even remember, and I'm too lazy to go look. Just take my word for it that they suck. XDForceDevice wrote:Radirgy, Psyvariar 2, Giga Wing 2, Ikaruga and Border Down are the ones that should be priority IMO.

Also, perhaps I should have been more specific-- I know I'll most likely pick up Ikaruga and Triggerheart Exelica, but other than that I'm more into danmaku shmups than basic ones, and since I haven't even heard of half of those, which would be the better ones to get? I heard Shikigami no Shiro II is for Dreamcast as well, and I may pick that one up as well.
@Phil12: Since almost all of the games look as worn as the system does, and every one I've tried so far are dated circa 1998, it's safe to say that this one dates from before the turn of the century. ;D

Each and every one that was made for the console. Seriously. They're all worth having.Momijitsuki wrote:Now, what shmups should I get for it?

I won't suggest you anything because this board is literally packed with DC shmup lists, but let me get it straight: you managed to snatch a jap DC with 12 jap games for $35 (aka NOTHING) or is it an US DC with loader disk and 12 crappy NTSC/UC sports/driving games, as with the usual collection of the typical joe dimwit across the road?
(ps. I'd keep them all btw. DC games are always a joy to look at)

Alas, Ikaruga is going...
Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

Get the dreamcast exclusive stuff. These are the best exclusive ones(in no specific order):
-Border Down
-Under Defeat
-Shikigami no Shiro 2
-Gigawing 2
-Trigger Heart Exelica
-Zero Gunner 2
-Psyvariar 2
-Ikaruga (not really exclusive but)
Milestone shmups are OK. But not as great as the rest of the exlusives.

No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

well, Trigger Heart is not exlusive in tha same way playing on an emulator makes the rest "not exclusive"
(but the naomi games are best played on dreamcast anyways)

Lots of great suggestions here. The best being 'get all of them'. I like the Bangai-o suggestion, since people forget it and the DC port has its own thing going on.
I've got a pricey copy of Border Down for sale if anyone is getting desperate.

Ha, I wish it was a Japanese one, but no. It's just a regular US DC.Fenrir wrote:I won't suggest you anything because this board is literally packed with DC shmup lists, but let me get it straight: you managed to snatch a jap DC with 12 jap games for $35 (aka NOTHING) or is it an US DC with loader disk and 12 crappy NTSC/UC sports/driving games, as with the usual collection of the typical joe dimwit across the road?

I'll take a wild guess and say the games you got are a whole bunch of sports games, Shenmue and Crazy Taxi. Maybe Sonic Adventure and Space Channel 5 if you're lucky.Momijitsuki wrote:Ha, I wish it was a Japanese one, but no. And what exactly does a Warashi game have to do with anything by MileStone? I've seen nothing on Trigger Heart Exelica getting a Wii port.Jockel wrote:Certainly, since Karous Wii has already launched 2 month ago.szycag wrote:I couldn't find anything about THE coming to the Wii, you might have something mixed up there?
And it contains Radilgy and Chaos Field as bonus.
Or are some of you confusing Illvelo with THE (I'm not really sure how you could)?
