Yes, if you like rare South Korean produced tate arcade shmup PCB titles such as R-Shark, Wyvern Wings: Space Opera, etc. then it would be for you...
I like how one still can manage to take out a few enemies if you still get hit by a bullet or enemy rams into you. Plus one of the bad guys that you're sent to capture is similar to the SDF-1 captain from the 1982 Macross anime series. My guess is the R-Shark developers had an affinity towards anime back in the day... ^_~
An occasional lone R-Shark PCB appears from time to time on eBay these days. The usual price point for one would in the neighborhood of $75.00 to $100.00 USD for one. It was distributed in the USA in limited numbers as I saw it at one of my local arcades back in 1997-1998.

What about ThunderForce AC. Even the SNES version has screeching weapon sfx, and it's got infinitely superior soundchips.Ed Oscuro wrote:Eh, still not as bad as the Shadowgun (from Shadowman)...Regulus wrote:Holy crap, some of the weapons have the most obnoxious sound effects I've ever heard.
Alas, Ikaruga is going...
Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

I don't like R-shark so much. It' s worse than super x. I think the Korean shmups from that era are all clunky, ugly and gross. The bullets don't scroll with the background, so they all feel like they're floating after you as you dodge them.
I think all those horrible things about the game are obvious.
That said, it's not that bad. It's actually got a nice pace, some cool set peices, and pretty cohesive art design, some cool bosses and enemies (although the all they're attacks are pretty gross).
Your ships weapons look awesome. The blue and red spiral laser is great (but still mostly in contrast to the rest of the game).
Bottom line, VERY poor compared to, say, Raiden, but still pretty good somehow.

Agreed 110%. Raiden was kicking my ass earlier today.dpful wrote:Bottom line, VERY poor compared to, say, Raiden, but still pretty good somehow.
It's nice for the change in pace and to get some not-Twin Cobra-style visuals, but oh man. That laser is cool though.
Fenrir: I'll look into that...I'm still gonna guess that Shadowman's Shadowgun is worse though :P
