Namco Classic Vol 2 - Dig Dug Settings Question

In the settings menu for original Dig Dug, there are three options for continue, old, new, and no.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the old and new setting for continue in original Dig Dug?

Guessing here.

old - continue from point of death.

new - same stage reset.
