Unless you just prefer a gamepad I think if youre going to go to the trouble of getting a console X to USB converter you might look at some of the cheap but good sticks available.
If youre going to play emulation games there are several cheap alternatives.
Ive spent butt loads on converters for my HRAP2, my DC Goblin, my SS, N64, etc & they are all great to ok sticks but can be kinda pricey when you add in the cost of the converter.
One of my favorite ( cheap ass ) stick & converter for playing emulation on the pc is the ASCII SNES Fighter Stick SN.

Its dirt cheap at under $10* but its a really good stick ( IMO ). Responsive with turbo, slow controls & its small enough to put on a crowded desktop but heavy enough to stay in place.
I use it with the Super Smart Joy converter:

Again under $10* & has never failed to connect & I sense no lag.
Also if you do prefer a game pad your local Walmart probably has a Pelican PS2 pad for $10 with no shipping. Just $4 a gallon in gas to get to it.
*Not including shipping but if you do some looking around Im sure you can find a deal...
EDIT: After some thought I do recall there are some games that dont necessarily play as expected if you use a stick rather than a gamepad.
Soooooo...

Saitek P220 gamepad ($6 ?), or any of their other cheap gamepads. I think the dpad on them is pretty nice and comfortable.

The problem with 360 pad is that it assigns X and Y axis to left analog stick (d-pad works as POV hat), so you have to use Xpadder all the time. Otherwise they're pretty good.Stormwatch wrote:How about a regular wired Xbox 360 pad?

The Logitech pad it290 linked is indeed pretty nice, especially for that price. It has a certain chunky feel to the d-pad.
Considering Saitek, I used to have a pretty cheap model that had a wonderful d-pad that felt almost exactly like a Saturn one, and the second one I bought (either the same or a very similar model, can´t remember) had a pad that was much worse, don´t know what happened there.
So I´d say you´re on the safe side with that Logitech pad.
