I remember "finding" this game on MAME many moons ago, needless to say I was impressed from the start, at that time I saw no one talking about it and thought I had found a pretty cool game that only I knew about (boy was I wrong).

It's a mighty fine game that everything moves so fast in, damn my slower reflexes.

The medals mechanic seems rather Raiden DX-y, but other than that the levels + bosses don't call Strikers or Dragon Blaze to mind all that much. I like this game mainly for its presentation - looks nicer at times than those games, but doesn't play quite as well. Close.nimitz wrote:Psikyo fans: what do you think of this game?
Its kinda halfway between the old Toaplan games and the newer Psikyo/Seibu stuff.

This game does have awesome graphics...the last boss is just crazy beautiful 2D artwork. Opening cinematics are really nice too. I especially like the voices: If you switch the region to Japan the voice at the start says "Aku Garret blows your socks off!" instead of "Air Garret".
I've been trying to get into this game a bit lately but the bullet patterns on most of the bosses are just too spammy. Even the first boss' patterns have to be dodged exactly right. I hated the 3rd boss...I literally couldn't beat it without either bombing the hell out of it or save states.
Didn't know until recently that Gazelle was formed as a splinter off of Toaplan. Makes sense as the fonts and some of the sounds feel like they were ripped right out of Batsugun.
My personal best on 1 credit is up to stage five: 1,461,340. That's probably a pretty crappy score though...didn't really know what I was doing.
