Don't see how.. it's popular because it's good, and sure, there's some pretty great shmups out there, but most shmuppers seem to enjoy playing Dodonpachi. Why is it overrated again?

Oh let me guess. It's because it's 2D. Right? RIGHT?

I tink it's about as overrated as Ikaruga. There are other shooters out there worth playing. Dodonpachi is good, yes, but assuming that everyone enjoys it is dumb.

If it was released again it would get released as an Xbox Live game, or possibly not.. heh, they rejected DOJ so probably not.

A US release is unlikely. CAVE games being released in the US.. haha, what a joke.

My guess: Too big for Microsoft's liking. They were going to include both the regular and Black Label versions, along with other stuff.

You are aware that the PS1 version of DDP was originally scheduled to be released in the US through A1 Games (unfortunately, it was met with obstruction by Sony USA), right?

So SCEA denied A1 Games the right to port DDP for the USA? I recall that there were some 2-D budget PSX game titles like Top Shop, Star Sweep, etc. I'm surprised that SCEA allowed Agetech the right to get Metal Slug X released in the USA -- since it's a lavish 2-D sprite fest to begin with.

Suppose if A1 Games included both Donpachi and Dodonpachi on one A1 Games disc compliation, would it sell at the cheap-ass $9.99 USD price point? Natsume's Gekioh: Shooting King was released as a budget PSX shmup title for a mere $9.99 price point...why not DDP?

You might recall that Strikers 1945 (aka Strikers 1945 II) for the U.S. PSX that was released from Agetech debuted with a $29.99 USD price point and despite have removed Tate option, it still was a solid shooter. The original JPN PSX version of Strikers 1945 II from Psikyo is really the one to get with it's usual 5,800 yen price tag... ^_~

Since the particulars surrounding why it was never ok'ed for release were never made public, I have to wonder if the possible removal of tate might have had something to do with it (seeing as the PS1 port of DDP is virtually unplayable in yoko).

And now that you mention it.. I think it was Agetec, not A1, who planned on bringin git over...

What about the style of DDP with it's bright colours despite the otherwise serious tone - is that something that could turn US customers away? When looking at the new Raiden you get the impression it could have been taylor made for the US market.
It is powerup of laser.
