Spoilers: This is not Ketsui, this is a butchered version made for the DS.Jockel wrote:I seriously cant stand the waiting time.
Being a console-only-shmuper, i could only experience the PS2 Ports of the Cave games. And there it is; finally an opportunity to play _the_ Cave game ever, without having to shell out 500+$

I'm just happy its coming to a region free console. Everything will be gravy when shooters start to hit the PS3.

I'm not sure many shmups will make it to PS3, since Ketsui and Dai-ou-jou Black Label are on track for releases on the 360. It seems to me that if it was feasible, CAVE would rather have licensed out PS3 ports instead since it's so much more popular than the 360 in Japan. And that would've been sweet since PS3 games are region-free.
Maybe it's just hard to program or something, I don't know.

Does Play-Asia sell out of preorders? Their system seems sort of strange, since it makes it easy for people to flake out, and probably encourages a lot of 'half-hearted' orders. I pretty much wish they'd just charge my card the full price now so I could sit easy and not have to think about it again until the game arrived on my doorstep.
horrible at shmups!

The bullet patterns will be modified to fit the less than perfect controls (processing power/screen resolution) of the DS. However, as far as I can tell, the "spirit" of most patterns has been kept, as the more memorizable patterns are still in it (thinking of the stage 4(?) boss stream of bullets that forces you around the screen clockwise, for instance). And since there are three difficulty modes there might be some variation in that (adding to that there seems to be some sort of rank in it, too).Jockel wrote:@Etrian: I am aware that this is a gimped version, but i guess the bullet patterns will stay the same. And thats the most important thing, right?
I guess the scoring system will suffer from the lack of stages, because aside from the pretty bullets the bosses throw at you the proximity scoring system sounds very thrilling to me (a nice, flexible risk/reward-setup), so I think of Ketsui DS as "sweet little boss-rush with nice patterns and hopefully not completely screwed up scoring and Ketsui art".
But I share your enthusiasm and have been excited about this from the first moment I heard about it (at first everybody thought this was an Aprils Fools, and for good reason), and it will easily push aside every other game on the DS for me. Even Nanostray 2 started to bore me after a couple of days, and since I grew up with the Gameboy I have an unnatural preference for handheld gaming, propably the worst attitude to have if you´re also a bullet-hell shmup fan.
tl;dr HELL YEAH.
There might never come a shmup to the DS after that, EVER, or maybe, if this game sells well, it might initiate some other shmups to come out on it - I mean original games or portable versions, like in this case, not just old games emulated; MODERN shmups. I guess it´s just a question of how the japanese market reacts to it. Maybe it might even create some new interest in the genre? Ah, wait and see... Though I believe that the inclusion of a multiplayer versus mode might prove to be a very clever decision - think of japanese shmup fanatics battling each other while taking breaks from playing on the cabinets. I could be far off, though, but who knows...Etrian wrote: The DS is region free, which is great, but I can't see many quality shooters ending up on it (as it stands, Ketsui DS seems rather watered down, although still good).

So I'm watching videos of this game on YouTurd--I mean, YouTube, and I come across this:
please stop saying that every danmaku shmup is a derivative of touhou before i laser-bomb you all to death.
Anyways, I'm not too sure about a danmaku on one DS screen. We'll see, I guess. It beats that annoying gimmick of "hay guys lets combine 2 screens to make 1 tall screen, never mind the gap between the screens."
GAHDAMMIT TOUHOU FANSHell Yeah , Touhou in DS!! , its gonna ruleeee!!

There was a similar comment like "Looks like a Touhou game without the awesome spell cards". SHHYEAH RIGHTgs68 wrote:So I'm watching videos of this game on YouTurd--I mean, YouTube, and I come across this:GAHDAMMIT TOUHOU FANS"Hell Yeah , Touhou in DS!! , its gonna ruleeee!!
Yeah, that two-screen vertical mode is always, ALWAYS horrible, that gap just never stops being annoying and confusing. And lets not forget that stretching the action on both screens adds much more strain on the already not very powerful DS processor.gs68 wrote: Anyways, I'm not too sure about a danmaku on one DS screen. I just hope people finally realized that this can´t possibly compare to the original Ketsui. The only thing I am really anxious about is if that game runs with a high framerate. It looks a bit choppy in the official trailer; and nothing kills shmups more than not running silky smooth. (Aside from having bad controls. Oh wait...)
Regardless, the thought of having a Ketsui bossrush on my DS still makes me excited, even if it´s dumbed down to fit on a inferior hardware.
