Blast Wind: How long have you kept the box alive in Stage 3?

In Stage 3, if you don't switch paths, you come across two switches.
The one on the left frees the block in your path and you can then push it around.
The one on the right just blows the block up.


I thought you would get something if you protect the block (it takes damage and you have to push it for it to move) through the first gauntlet of enemies afterwards, but... nothing happened at that time. And eventually, the block took too much damage and exploded a good bit later on in the level.

I mainly ask because I've been trying to get the block through the level all day. And if it winds up like those three near invincible orbs in Stage 5 that do absolutely NOTHING when you blow all 3 of them up (well, I've only achieved that once, and while I think I might have seen something, I'm not sure, but I do know it didn't affect my score much), then I will be very unhappy.
