Some Cowboy Bebop questions.
Some Cowboy Bebop questions.
Well, I'm finally gonna get started buying Cowboy Bebop on DVD. I was able to keep myself from watching most of it on Adult Swim but saw enough episodes that I loved it. I can tell it has a very tight character arc (which as a Babylon 5 fan is very important to me) and Spike is just plain cool as a likeable antihero.
But since I plan on watching it later with a young cousin of mine who is getting into anime (about 11, he cut his teeth on my Robotech DVDs), are there are parts I should watch out for? Any nudity, lots of gore? I know one episode is supposed to show two guys in bed, might wanna skip that part for him too.
EDIT: And I should add, as a big jazz fan the soundtrack is perfect for me.

Yeah, the episode where Faye goes on a wild goose chase has a scene where she runs up to those two guys and sticks her gun in the mouth of one of them. I think that's the one where Spike has to rescue her. There's another episode where she meets this guy with boobs that are the side effect of some hormone or drug therapy he underwent. Overall, nothing really that shocking in the show, if I remember right.

Undamned is the leading English-speaking expert on the consolized UD-CPS2 because he's the one who made it.

I don't recall any. there are some brief bed scenes, though.Any female nudity though?
Ever see the first episode? that one had a great twist; really dramatic.
as for gore.. nothing was really too over the top.
just about every episode had a share of violence, such as:
kung-fu, gunfights, falling out of high-rise, stabbing, blade across the eyes, etc.
(mainly lots of blood)
I think its definitely a good show for fans of nineties' action movies.
at least that's the reason why I enjoyed it

BTW: if you're interested, I have all six R1 DVDs that I've been meaning to sell-
they're fairly used and one disc has a crack in the center, but all work fine
(official Bandai release, no knock-offs)
Sorry, but I just bought volume one. Got a pretty good deal too, got it and Invader Zim vol 2 from Sam Goody for $41. I had a $10 gift certificate plus they had a buy two items, get 20% off sale. Not too bad.llaoyllakcuf wrote:I don't recall any. there are some brief bed scenes, though.Any female nudity though?

Watched Asteroid Blues Saturday night, I'd seen parts of the street fight on adult swim before but never the whole episode.
Spike is a very interesting character, he seems very self centered (but in a strange and relaxed likeable way I can't quite pin) as a bounter hunter would be, but you can tell he looks very sad when he stares through the glass in his cockpit as Asimov's girl is about to die. Then the next scene where Jet again gives the lunch call for "Bell peppers and beef" (man, the NA VA'ing is so great) is a wonderfully humorous way to close such a melancholy episode.
Three things:
Did Asimov's head explode from taking too much red eye? (that's the impression i got)
As llaoyllakcuf said, the twist of Asimov's girl appearing pregnant is brilliant. Because at first you think "Oh she's pregnant, I sure hope she makes it to mars." But then when you see she is actually smuggling, you feel a little less sympathetic. But the fact you can see her tender side when she is talking with Spike still makes her death all the more sadder.
I have always really liked Spike's suit and loose tie. Not just because it fits in well with the film noir feel of the show, but because it seems to fit in well with his funny, laid back yet serious personality and gives off a humorous "business casual" feel which IMHO is much better than having him wear some typical future/bounter hunter outfit or kung fu suit.
And again, the North American voice actors do an amazing job, I will even go so far as to say I like them much better so far than the asian VAs, they just seem to give off more varied personality for each character in this case.
Oh yes, and the Real Folk Blues is one kickin' jazz-blues track.

OK, maybe I am not watching it right but it seems like the camera pans away just before he dies. I think I remember her pulling her gun now. I dunno why she decided to shoot him though with a whole fleet of mob (?) ships comign at 'em, they were gonna die anyways.FatalError wrote:In Asteroid Blues, Asimov's girlfriend, Katerina shoots him in the head.
Also, keep an eye out for episodes named after famous albums. And if you really like the music, save up the money for the soundtracks. Yoko Kanno is brilliant.
And yeah, definitely will keep an eye out for the music.
