That's truth there. He was kind of an oddball, but I can't remember an occasion when he was impolite, rude or arrogant.

I'd say, unban him the 4th of July. Shmups needs a turkey!

Suspend him, call his parents. Make him write an apology letter :)

Exactly. He never swore or acted aggressively. He never derailed threads either; his comments were easily ignored and could be deemed 'silly' at worst. In such a conservative forum, he was a breath of fresh air, to say the least.

Oh well, back to looking yahoo auction threads :x

Well, you could talk to him about Castlevania in the 2D Forum, we haven't banned him there (so far he's been behaving himself, sort of).

Hey, this forum isn't conservative, come on. :)

We got tired of giving him warnings about spamming the forum and cutting him some slack because he used to be a good poster. It wasted a lot of everyone's time.

Then there was this gem:

Code: Select all

20:43 < IAMMIGHTY> I'm just gonna flood the forum with discussion topics lol
20:43 < bsidwell> Good plan.
20:43 < IAMMIGHTY> nothing they can do about that lol
20:43 < bsidwell> (Note: That was sarcasm. It's actually a bad plan, unless you
want to be banned.)
20:44 < IAMMIGHTY> if they bite then they get demodded lol
There are no prizes for guessing who IAMMIGHTY was, by the way. We don't ban people until other options are exhausted, or there's an immediate compelling reason to do so.

The magic of anonymity.

Spam can be considered a form of derailment, you know? It disrupts the flow of conversation. If his comments were easily ignored, something must be wrong

I'm still fairly new here, but I think there was some ironic, YCS-style posting going on with shoe-sama. Except it's been done for so long that people no longer see it as ironic.

I liked it better when people didn't spam threads just for the sake of doing so. It isn't funny.

It would make more sense if Off-Topic didn't contribute towards post count.

shoe is the lolcat version of Bag of Magic Food from tasvideos. Better content in his posts than 95% of posters.

Off topic is for threads about anything that isn't otherwise objectionable. What are the guidelines for this? Undamed can spam bullshit about amalgamations of various dead consoles, yet Arcadia can't even see his thread last 2 posts in an innocuous topic about toothbrushes. Perhaps Off Topic for videogames related subjects only? I'm scared to start a thread about it lest I be banned.

As long as the thread content isn't:

"KKHJGFHTR$T%#$%#$T lol" or something the like, you should be fine.

I'd like Shoe to be a part of this forum again though (an apology letter or something could do, right!?).
He WAS spamming, but in a non offensive way imho. If he promises less spamming, I hope he could be allowed again.

"non offensive" except for the part where he was sitting there saying "I'm spamming chat topics because they can't do anything about it and they won't ban me and if they do they'll get demodded lol"

He decided to play 'purposefully bait the moderators and be a pain' and he lost. EOT

Or in shoe perspective, he PVP'd the forum and it won.

That's all well and good, but when your topics get locked, you don't restart them. The fact of the matter is he was in no position to push, as he'd been talked to multiple times and been given many many chances to not be a retard, yet he persisted.

Part of being a useful and good member of a community such as this is that when the moderators ask you to stop doing something, you be polite and stop doing it. If you disagree with their position and you cannot convince them otherwise, then just leave.

real spam/meaningless discussion.

Sad thing is- this stuff will only increase lest the dry spell come to an end quicker. Things are looking good, though.

Shoe-sama was an asset to these forums. Both because he brought some much needed (often intelligent) humour and also because many of his posts contained valuable observations, especially in the last few weeks. That is the way of most internet forums, though - in the end only the mediocre remain. I don't know if the moderators had any options but to ban though.
