Parodius Da!/Goku/Sexy

Post by elbarto »

Please post scores for these games in the new high score thread. Thanks!

Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius has it's own score thread already, and the MSX game has a table in the MSX Collection score thread.

The 32-bit ports of Parodius Da! shall now be known as the "Konami failed maths" editions, thanks to the bell values being totally screwed up.

General Rules:
Single credit only, of course.
Roulette can be set to your preference.

PSP players, as well as using the PS defaults, can you please make sure your options have been changed to "original" so that the difficulty and hitbox are set correctly. Thanks.

Parodius Da!

PCB: Difficulty: Normal, Lives: 3, Extend: 20K/80K.
SS/PS/SFC: Difficulty: 4, Rest: 2.

With regard to the "floating" stages in Goku/Sexy, I'm not sure of the best way to label the stage reached, will have to figure that out as I go along :)

Sexy Parodius:

Landshark - 477,600 - 1-6 - MAME

f=fail c=complete d=dead
1-2(F)-3(C)-4(C)-5(F)-6(D)

I think it's 1-6. I passed 1-5 and was in some sort of a boss rush I never made it to. Some jelly blow, followed by orbiting things, followed by the eagle boss. Not sure what's after it, I died.

This was an aweful showing of score. But I've never made it this far before. Actually, never made it past level 3 or 4 I think.

Which character was that with?

The Boss Rush seems to turn up at random after stages 2-5, and has 5 bosses.
Capsule - Giant Power-up Capsule from Goku Paro
Pirate Penguin - fires loads more bullets than in Paro Da!
Eagle - from Paro Da! as well but has much larger ripple laser
Lips - from Paro Da! too, new attack though
Woman - has attacks from above 4

Congrats on completing stage 4 (girls being packed in crates). I've been avoiding it as it gives me loads of problems, by deliberately failing stage 3 and going for 4' with the mines/giant Tanuki instead.

EDIT - I see you managed to do the stage 3 that always gives me grief as well (shoot 100 mice/Medusa boss).. nice one.

It's the character that is in your Avatar, I do not know his name.

I usually do not have an issue getting level 3's 100 mice target. I like finding that mouse that has the head that keeps exploding giving you up to 10,000 points a pop.

I have only ever completed level 2's mission once. It's so damned hard. (Only time I did it, I used Alex, which someone on this board recommended).

Level 4 was not too difficult. I ended up with like 110 or 112. It was the first time I had ever played that level and I was fully powered up upon entering it.

I died right before the boss with a bell on the screen. I happen to get the "big" bell right as the boss encounter started so I killed him without having to fight him (just sat on him until he died). I most definitely would have died on that boss because I had no powerups.

What pissed me off is I died in level 2 but kept playing instead of restarting - what a stupid death.

I was suprised I made it through level 5 - that level has always been hell for me when I credit fed. I coudln't for the life of me get a big bell until the end when you need it ... but I wanted it to get the coins.

I wondered about that boss rush. I've played it before and wasn't sure why it popped up so late. Usually I complete it... but the freaking eagle rushed me and I couldn't squeeze in between the feather spread.

Oh well - I love this game. Wish I had someone to play this game with as 2 players has gotta be fun.

Edit: I was wrong. I got the big-bell on the level 5 boss. Level 4's boss was easy.

I just played again and bested my score by a whole 1.5k, but died in level 5.

Landshark - 479,000 - Dude-In-Elbarto's Sig

Took the exact same path: 1-2(Fail)-3(Comp)-4(Comp)-5(dead)

This game pisses me off soooooooo much.

Sexy Parodius:

Landshark - 538,200 - 1(C)-2(C)-3(C)-*(F)-4(C)-5(dead) - Koitsu

I will never ever beat the eagle boss without dying.

If I could do that, I'd have more points because once you die, I haven't figured out how to kill the lips boss before it runs away (no powerups at all).

Mambo rules. Finally get to the real level 6 and I get insta killed by an enemy I've never seen. There's something that shoots giant forcewaves that are about 8 times as wide as your ship and travel really fucking fast.

Sexy Parodius:
Landshark - 601,300 - 1(C) - 2(C) - 3(F) - 4(C) - 5(F) - *(F) - 6(dead) - Mambo - MAME

And that fucking eagle. I almost broke my hand when I died on him and punched the TV. I repaired my cabinet once, I don't wanna have to do it again.

Goku Parodius

Landshark - 691,900 - 1-6 - Koitsu

old score.

I had a great game today. Had 500k at the end of stage 3 I think. Then I had a massive flurry of deaths.

Parodius Da!:

271'500 / Stage 4 / Twinbee / Mame

Well, nice classic game and sure a lot of fun.
But if I miss ONE bell, I'm really sorry for my score.
Or worse, if I lose one life at a critical point, I'm done for.

Think I'm starting to play Sexy Parodius for Highscores.
It seems much easier than Parodius Da!.
Too bad it's again with checkpoints.
I'd prefer the Gradius V way: If I lose one life, another "Vic Viper" will scroll into the screen and the game would continue until Game Over.

Because I was so close to Landshark, I tried Parodius Da! one more time.

Here's my new score:
314'500 / Stage 4 / Twinbee / Mame

Lost all my lifes against the stage 4 boss. :(

I couldn't dodge his underwear, it's too fast, it even got me while using two "speed ups".
Is there any point where this attack doesn't reach me? Maybe above him?

I haven't played the MAME version in ages, but I've definitely managed to dodge that attack a couple of times before in the other versions. I don't remember having to be in a specific position though. I usually use two speed-ups as standard.

Usually though, I manage to destroy it just before it launches that final attack. :?

EDIT - Just gave it a runout in MAME+ (easier than finding an autofire pad, heh) and managed to destroy the st4 boss before it even started the animation for the final attack. Only had one Option and Ripple Laser too.

I'd forgotten how crazy the arcade version was, seems to get harder much faster than any of the ports. Got to stage 7 (Beautiful Girls) but my brain gave out then and couldn't comprehend how to dodge any more. 364k btw

I got to stage 7 once on a real Parodius arcade when I was 10.

Yes, I think the original one is slightly harder than any ports.

Damnit Edge. You made me boot up my mame machine.

1 lifed to 1-5, died because it was totally cracked out on rank. Took me the rest of my lives to get the rank back down to low.

Died milking the big-female-head boss that spits little heads. She was red too :( Damned greed. Thought I'd kill the little head before it reached the top. Wrong, splat.

Sorry, Landshark. :P

But don't worry I won't try to beat your Parodius Da! score again.
This game gets me too mad! ^^

But I have begun to play Sexy Parodius.

And that's my highscore for now:

485'500 / Vic Viper / Mame

Stage 1 (C) Stage 2 (F) Stage 3 (F) Stage 4 (Game Over)

Really awesome game! :D
I like this mission system very much, reminds me at Starfox 64/Lylat Wars.
And all the stages are really fun. But I kinda hate the first stage, it's too boring. Why is there no "real" mission to complete in the first stage?
This would make the stage a little more entertaining...

I am not so sure about which ships/charcters are good.
I have tried some of the others, they have a lot more range.
But the problem with all the range is, I shoot the bells the whole time so I can't collect them.

I had a go tonight, these are by no far the best scores, but there's no way I could remember the stage I reached with a game I played 5 years ago.. so therefore :)

323.600 1-5 Pentarou

MJR - are all of those scores on the MAME versions?

Sexy Parodius:

573'600 / Michael / Mame

Level 1 (C) / Level 2 (F) / Level 3 (F) / Level 4 (C) / Boss Rush (F) / Level 5 (Game Over)

Michael's Wave Beam is really strong and his Shield protects you even from walls(!), think I'll stay with that character.
This time I tried to play on Semi-Auto and this is really great. I can still select a weapon, but the game will automatically take the "power Up" or "Shield". This comes in handy in really messy situations and on Semi-Auto no roulette items will appear. :D

I often mess up with the missions. (I am too much concerned about the bells)
But when I reached some of the "completed mission levels" it seemed to me like you get less points than in some "failure mission levels"?
Like in mission 3, the castle stage, there is that balloon head mouse giving you lots of score.
I may be wrong I may not know the success levels well enough...

Oh no MJR!
Don't stay so close to my Parodius Da! highscore. This could make me boot up my Parodius Da! once more. And this game will get me really mad again. ^^

Sexy Parodius:

Lvl. 1 (C) / Lvl.2 (F) / Lvl.3 (F) / Boss Rush (F) / Lvl.4 (C) / Lvl.5 (F) / Lvl.6 (Game Over)

This was a good run!
1 lifed to Level 5 and got lots of points out of the bells.
Somehow managed to reach the sixth stage, but with no good power ups I wasn't able to last long.

Sexy Parodius - MAME

Alluro - 241,000 - Vic Viper
Stage Path: 1-2(P)-3(D)

In stage 3, with the underwater Geisha women, I actually 1CC'ed all the way to Otohime (the egg woman boss). I had her to her last bit of energy before she threw her head off screen, then I realized that it would come back from behind. It was too late. The head killed me, and my entire game was shot here.

I die so many stupid deaths in this game. Once, I reached the boss rush after stage 2 and I actually died against the first "boss" of the round, Capsule Monster! It shoots out spiked balls amongst the stream of power-up Capsules, and a spiked ball nailed me. Argh!

I also crash into the walls a lot, especially in stage 2's bath house. I even once died by crashing into the stupid Yie Ar Kung Fu guy in an attempt to shoot him down!

A level 2 or level 3 Alex helps GREATLY in stage 2 collecting over 300 coins to fulfill the mission requirements.
The age of Alluro and JudgeSpear is over.

I'm yet to pass the boss rush. Every time I get to it, I die against the eagle and then can't kill the lips because I'm powerless and run out of time.
