what is up with that mars matrix board..... odd casing for CPS2?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Single board CPS2. There's no A and B, just one in a smaller black casing. I have a single board Gigawing, which I suspect is a bit easier to find.

No fan, and half the weight of a regular A+B combo. YES!

Apparently the official name for these single black versions is 'VA' type. I have no idea what that stands for.

negative points,

-They removed the Q-Sound chip, so it's just regular stereo with the RCA's.
-The program code is on flash simms instead of eprom, so phoenix revival is not possible right now.

btw, this is the first time I've seen a Mars Matrix black version, and it's not listed on cps2shock, hence the eureka moment.
This might be a one-off...I noticed a sfzero3 label beneathe the mars matrix label.

The standard CPS-2 "A + B" configuration of Mars Matrix is pretty heavy and noisy with the stock fan installed...

That's cool that such a single-layer MM PCB exists...does it still have a suicide battery installed though?

I'll bet that this one-off MM PCB set you back a pretty penny or yen, right?

Thanks for the ever informative news on such rare "one-off" arcade shmups such as your cool black-colored MM PCB... ^_~

indeed, jumbo jet loud, unless you spend $20 on a papst 612FL replacement or add a resistor to slow down the stock fan.

oh yeah, that reminds me... black version uses standard phillips screws on the case. No need for security torx bits to open.

of course.

nope... paid the usual.

[edit] btw, like I said before, I only suspect it is one-off or similar. I'm not certain, let's be clear.

Espgaluda

Arrived a few days ago with some original instruction stuff, unexpectedly.

Man I love this game, although I still suck punching a good score out of it. But if I will ever give birth to a child, I want to call it Kakusei or something

US Dimahoo Phoenix Edition.

Now I've just got to disable the fan so I can stand playing it.

Disable the fan and it will die, phoenix or not, by overheating. If you can't stand it that much, you should just remove it from the case.

Ooh - I want an Atomic Boy now.

Just got a Nova 2001, that's quite a rarity - I've not built the adapter yet but it works, I know the seller.

Its a match 3 game. The GBA port of this is quite popular, and apparently there is a DS and PS2 and as well.

Took a long time until I came across the original GNET version.

You can play an online flash version here.

Essentially yes.

BTW: there are some crazy highscores on this card. Just played it a few times and couldn't get more than 6000 points. Just to reach the hs table number 20 slot is over half-million, and top score is just over 1 million (48:35 playing time)!

Double Wings (Korean): raiden clone with fast ships! Sweet!
GunNail: (undumped) 1992 version? Korean PCB but shows Japanese logo? Unfortunately has corrupted sprites
Gunbird (Korean): cheap + english language
Cotten Boomerang: (bootleg) super cheap so I don't care, been waiting too long for this one.

Aww, sorry about GunNail. It's a real shame because it's a killer game. Still, grats on your other purchases!

And i want an Nova 2001 :) Never played that but just looking at screenshots of it makes me want it... i just love UPL games.

Also Atomic Boy is not so good emulated in MAME at the moment so don't use that to play it (it has major speed problem and no sound).
