That was one of the ideas behind creating the 2D Forum for y'all. So I wanted to find out if Contra NES really maxed out (I'd never heard that before this thread), and I did it today. 6,553,500 as stated.
Some notes:
It took 9 completed loops to reach it. The real score would have been about 6.8 million after loop 9 if it didn't max out. I killed myself off during the tenth loop.
You stop earning extra lives after loop 4, however I believe I did get an extra life after completing loops 5 and 9.
30 lives is not the max, as I had expected. At some point I had 34.
So now I never need to play Contra ever again.
