Apidya default lives? / HIDDEN LEVEL FOUND AFTER 16 YEARS!

Post by Sly Cherry Chunks »

So Ive been playing Apidya on emu recently, the cracked version I have has the default no. of lives set to 5. Is this the correct default? I know that you could save your options to disk on the amiga I'm wondering if this might not be the game's "factory setting".

Does anyone know?

EDIT: oh, and while I'm at it - has anyone found the speed of light stage yet?

EDIT EDIT: oh, Christ I dont believe it!

I never wondered about the amount of lives Apidya has set as default.. my copy (which was cracked too) had 5 as default too, if I remember correctly, but I never wondered that could actually not be the default.

And yay for that secret level :)

Will have to give this a try finally...probably wrong here, but doesn'it it look a bit R-Typish?

Apidya is pretty much a game styled after the older games in the shooter genre. so it's definitely got lots of R-Type and Gradius influence. (The graphics are another story though. that's pretty much it's own thing altogether, especially that level inside the dead rat and the doll boss. >_> )

Yes, it does plays a bit like R-Type, but with a power-up bar like Gradius. But I find the pace a little faster than R-Type, feeling a bit more hectic. It also doesn't have situations where you will die when you reach it for the first time because you didn't know what was coming.

It's awesome. The level design is awesome, the music is fantastic... I always say, if this was released on, let's say, the SNES or Mega-Drive by a japanese developer, people would rate it very highly. As it's an Amiga game made by an european developer, most people just go "Eh, euroshmup" and dismiss it.

True, true...
Pretty cool discovery. I feel a sudden urge to fire up the game :D

This new level cries out for 180Hz monitor refresh and frame rate. Has anyone made a gameplay-interpolating emu, for any system? Theories?

Not the same as a simulated overclock of an emulated chip, I don't guess.

Cool!
I aways wondered what the "Speed of Light" music track in the sound option menu was for?

The bonus stage looks frentic!

I know!!! It's so amazing I think I weed a bit. It's terrific.
I'll let you even know that that hole in the mechanic level had always tickled my attention and that I've always thought that that "speed of light" was just a sort of BGM for a rolling demo that eventually didn't make it thru the final version.

That game is really a miracle :D cool, sleek and full of quirks - what more could you possibly ask :P

Btw, Anno 1992: Project X got released the same year and had technically the same bonus stage: it's just that there was a voice telling you "go up" or "go down" to help you get through the stage. Only this Apidya looks way more difficult. I think I'll play a bit now :D
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

The irony is that you lose your shield if you go through the bonus stage - and then exit right before the boss. Its probably better to skip it because you dont respawn during the bossfight (unlike every other level).
