im buying a new astro city cab this week and apparently it needs a cap kit
what i need to know is which caps need to be replaced or if its better to just do em all, and the values for each....its the stock nanao monitor that comes with new astro city's
and if the cap kit doesnt fix the issue is it possible to replace the chassis or do i need a whole new monitor??
and providing i can source a new chasis, what kind of cost am i looking at?
any help or tips or links to sources of info would be most appreciated
thanks

capkit for new astro city
I'm curious why you think it needs a cap kit before even receiving the cabinet? Some people use this as an end-all excuse for other monitor problems, when in most cases it will only fix color and sync problems, not geometry and purity issues.
To answer the question, there is no official cap kit, so Bob Roberts (a great resource) won't have one. I'm not sure if anyone tried to document one, but all you need to do it take out the chassis, read all the caps you can find, then order them through mouser or digikey. Its that simple.

allow me to explain...i went to see the cab....hooked up my ESP Ra.De board to it and the picture kinda looked like somebody was pulling towards the top....
the guy i am buying it from has been talking to some guy who knows arcade monitors who said it wasnt an adjustment issue...it was a cap issue....
i spoke to someone at an arcade repair shop today who said the same thing based on my description.....
im unsure tho because buddies mr driller PCB displayed fine but there was the distortion with my board....
i would think that if the caps are shot and causing display issues it would be the same regardless of the board....
does it sound like a cap kit might help or should be looking for a new chassis??
im majorly bummed and want to find a solution to this problem quick....
thanx for any help....

Yes, please post some pics and the arcade hardware specialists on-board can make a suggestion fix to your ailing monitor's woes...jonny5 wrote:would pictures of the display issue help at all??
Or better yet, have a local arcade repair tech person come in from a local arcade distro in your neighborhood and do some diagnostics on it. Heed his expert advice...just consult your Yellowbook pages and search under "Vending machine/arcade game distributors" subject heading. ^_~
