Got Chaos Field - Expanded - Please Help!

Post by BAD »

Something's wrong. Terribly wrong. I booted the game up on my USA GC with the FreeLoader, and everything seemed fine. Some text came up asking me some questions about the memory card, and I thought that the game just needed to make a new file to save with, so I hit "yes." That was the worst thing I could have done; it erased all of the data on the memory card that I use exclusively for Japanese games! My Shikigami No Shiro II save file (along with a few others) is now gone. What the hell happened?

So at least one would think that it would have made a new save file after formatting the whole damn card, right? Wrong. Not only did it erase everything on the card, but it also won't make a new save file. Translated, it just keeps saying, "There is damaged data on the Memory Card in Slot A, so it needs to be re-formatted." After you re-format it, some other text blinks on and then off real quick, then after you press "A" like it tells you to, it repeats the same shit about formatting. I can't save at all, no matter what I do.

Has this happened to anyone else? Has anyone noticed this? Any help would be greatly appreciated, since I might have to bring it back to the import store I got it from (new). Thanks!

Chaos Field Expanded doesn't save properly with the Freeloader. You'll need to modify your Cube (and buy a separate memory card) to be able to save with it.

Really? Why is that? Even if I have a separate card that I already used to save SNSII and Mario Kart DD? Are there other games that do this, too?

I lost several game saves a couple of months ago after I first booted CF: Expanded. Nothing's wrong with your GC or your memory card. Something about the game and playing it with a Freeloader does this, basically reformatting your memory card. And, to add insult to injury, I haven't been able to save anything from the game itself.

Do what I did...use it as an excuse to again play through those GC games that you lost saves on. There's something a bit liberating about starting over from scratch. Oh, and from now on, remove your memory card when you play CF: Expanded. That way, you won't lose any more saves.

I feel for you, man. I was so pissed off when I realized my entire memory card had been picked clean.

EDIT: It seems like I've heard of a couple of other games that have this same effect when used with a Freeloader, but I'm damned if I can remember what those are...

Yeah, man...it sucks. I'm thinking of taking it back, though; this shit sucks. I lost some scores that friends worked really hard to get...they'll be sad to hear that all their hard work was erased. Shit. I don't know what to do, now...I've already unwrapped it and played it (well, sort-of). Fuck, I know I should have just got Psyvariar 2...but I wanted more shmups for the GC...

Edit: If you can remember them, please tell me! I plan on importing the Naruto games, also...

I'm not sure why - it's just a weird incompatibility. Mr. Driller Drill Land and a couple of others (can't remember which ones as I'm tired, but check the ntsc-uk.com forums for info) have the problem, too.

Sorry dude. Yeah it sucks, but don't blame the game, its Freeloader that did it. Piece of crap.

The freeloader topic has already been discussed in this thread here:

Yeah, but I need to save my high scores and settings, man! If I had known about this ahead of time, I'd be playing Psyvariar 2 right now instead...

Think of it as coming to terms with one's DC roots.

in the future instead of worrying about the mod nonsense, perhaps just keep a pad and pen handy.
I have no sig whatsoever.

I hope that was light sarcasm, otherwise you're looking for a serious flame war. When I was in jr high, I played Lightening Force (aka Thunderforce 4) incessantly. Did it save my high scores? No, it didn't. I had to right them down in the back of the manual like everybody else. If you're too lazy to do that, don't cry about your Freeloader issue.

FRO: I did the same back then with U.N. Squadron, Gradius III, etc. But I want to save my high scores if I'm supposed to be able to. I wasn't "crying" about anything; those who like to save their high scores understand my concern. Go ahead and "flame" me. Waste your time; I don't care.

captain ahar: Nevermind; I think I'll just have FRO "right" them down for me. FRO seems like a good "righter."

Paradoxically, the Freeloader forces the Gamecube to do stuff it wasn't designed to do, resulting in stupid glitches like this. The switch mod, meanwhile, is completely within Nintendo's specifications for the system and works perfectly with everything.

Life isn't fair sometimes, eh?

No, it won't. You'll need to start over for Jap games.
