You can still buy these games new, and they cost next to nothing, for god's sake. While I don't give a shit about pirating NES games or whatever, this is clearly crossing a line. All I can say, Tommyb, is if you like them, make sure you buy at least one or two of them, yeah?

I downloaded all of mine, but I plan on buying them when I get some money. I'm broke right now though, so this will just have to do. ZUN will get his money, just not right away. :o

Wait, what about the PC-98 games?

A while back I heard something on Shoot-the-core about ZUN selling 1-5 ported to Windows (I think). I'll go find that.

Edit: Can't seem to find it. I'll ask post and see if he can find it.

Really? I never heard that. That would be neat as pc-98 emulators are generally a pain in the ass.

Yeah, seeing that everything comes out as gibberish on them. xD

I also plan on importing Mushihime-sama at some point, so I have to set aside some money for that too. x_x

(how much exactly does it cost to do that, by the way? I'd never be able to afford the cabinet, nor am I willing to pay that much. I'm talking how much an imported PS2 would cost and how much Mushi itself costs...)

I don't get gibberish anymore, I got all that sorted out but only after a lot of swearing.

Well, as with any other emulator, you've got to find a way to patch the rom itself. I wonder if anyone dabbles in that sort of thing.

Edit: Oh, you mean the emulator itself. ANEX works fine for me.

You could try bootdisks, seeing as they make them, and they're cheaper than an import PS2 or a modchip.

After doing a bit of searching, you should be able to find it for less than $20. If this is incorrect, please tell me now.

How'd you manage that? What emulator are you using? I'm using ANEX, because it's the one DoujinStyle gave me.

@LGB: I'll do some searching in a while.

I'm using Anex as well, there is a character map (i guess, its a giant .bmp with kanji on it) available which sorts everything out. I got it off a PC-98 emulation site, i've forgotten which one i'm afraid.

when i got Touhou 1-5, igot them in a pack that came with the whole 5 games in a single HDD image and the emu, and whenever i run it, i can read the japanese chars, even in the games (the HDD image, has a booting menu, in which you can chose what game to play)...

That would be the ANEX pack that Momijitsuki mentioned.

On the topic of picking up a copy of the Touhou games, I recommend www.paletweb.com . Despite the early-1990's-tastic web design, they're a solid company I've dealt with many times and have, to my knowledge, the cheapest prices on Touhou games beyond buying them in person here in Japan.

My favorite has to be Imperishable Night for the fact that all the characters require completely different strategies to use effectively, with a close second being Embodiment of Scarlet Devil as it was the first Touhou game I ever played.

Been meaning to pick up Mountain of Faith as I thought the trial edition was purty, but it seems a lot of people weren't quite satisfied with it.

Mountain of Faith has a pretty unoriginal scoring system, and I don't care for the way bombs are used either, but it has some of the prettiest danmaku so far. :o

@FIL: What gifts? =P

I'm not sure what they're currently giving away, but in the past they've had tin badges and pencil boards. When I got PCB they gave me a pencil board with a picture by One Night Stand of Advent Cirno fame on it.

Boy do I look like a Touhoufag now huh? I'm really not, honestly!

There's nothing wrong with enjoying the games. :o

Anyway, I'll probably get Perfect Cherry Blossom if I buy any of them, which I plan to buy them all eventually. But I plan on importing Mushihime-sama first. =P

I hope you have plenty of monies, Mushi is getting rediculously expensive these days from what I've seen.

Well, I found a few copies of the game for $80 on eBay, so that isn't TOO bad. Importing a Japanese PS2 will be a pain in the ass though, because I can't mod my PS2 and I don't know anyone locally who can, so that's more out of my wallet.

It's a lot cheaper than getting the Mushi cabinet, any way you look at it. :D
