Somewhat new
I'm somewhat new to the whole Shmup scene. I recently got Ikaruga for the 360 Live Arcade, and I've been playing DoDonPachi, Mars Matrix and Giga Wing for some time, and was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for me? Any other games I should be playing?

Try using the search function, see what's popular in High Scores, etc.
There was a topic just like this not long ago.
Also, hello!

Thou shalt not recommend Garegga to beginners. ;)
Seriously, it's too unforgiving and it requires you do things pretty much opposite to standard shmup behavior. Leave it for later.
Also, check out Gradius V and other Cave shmups beside DoDonPachi, like ESPRaDe, Espgaluda, Mushihimesama. Personally, I also like Touhou games, but they're somewhat ostracized here.

They're just deceiving you.tommyb wrote:thanks for the all the recommendations guys, i'll probably start on the cave games, ive heard a lot of good things about them.
Go on Ebay, buy a Commodore Amiga 500 with 1mb memex, an albatross stick and get rocking.
Alas, Ikaruga is going...
Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

Battle Garegga is good for newbies if they have no idea of what to do, and just want to blast off stuff. It will be unforgivably punishing, but it will still be lots of fun.
If you actually try to teach a newbie how to play Garegga properly, then he will be in serious trouble
Go play Batrider, it's awesome indeed.

Where in SE michigan are you located? I'm downriver, and I know there's a good chunk in the metro area in general.
I dig Under Defeat and Border Down for DC, myself. Triggerheart is a helluva lot of fun.
