SOS TO TRIANGLE SERVICE
SOS TO TRIANGLE SERVICE
Triangle Service, I am very pleased with your recent Dreamcast release, Trizeal. Although by no means technically stunning, it is a joy to play.
That is truly what Shooting Love should represent.
However, I have seen the innitial video from your next WIP: Project Lambda. Let me say that this is not Shooting Love. Project Lambda bears a striking resemblance to Macross Digital Mission VFX, which sucked so hard it could get a golf-ball through a garden hose.
I propose an idea, why not try making another NAOMI shmup? Build on what you learned from Trizeal. Hell, give us Trizeal 2. Or possibly, try your hand at making a side-scroller. It would be nice to have a second one available for the DC. I won't ask for a XIIStag II unless you plan on totally reworking the score-multiplier mechanic. Although, if you remove the joystick wiggling, I guess you couldn't call it a sequel, so I have come up with some potential titles for a XIIStag follow-up (feel free to use any of them):
XIIEmu
XIIGnu
XIIAntelope
XIIGazelle
XIIAardvark
XIIArmadillo
My personal favourites are XIIAntelope and XIIAardvark.
To reiterate, please consider giving us another shmup in the same vein as what you just completed. You had a successful release when the chips were stacked against you, but don't let that go to your head. You've truly shown us what Shooting Love is, now please do so again.
Thank you.

Personal purreference. Trizeal might've been shooting love for vertical scroll shooting, and Project LAMBDA could be shooting love for 3D rail shooting.
That said; They did mention that in the two years between XIISTAG and TRIZEAL, they have been involved in "many projects," only one of those being Project LAMBDA. I'm thinking that they showed it to us not because it's the next thing that they'd like to do, but because it was the most polished product that they had at the time.
Given their revitalized status, I've been thinking that they'll probably use this opportunity to tackle something big. How could they resist? Project LAMBDA will probably come out eventually, and I personally wouldn't mind it if it did come out next, but I would be lying if I said that I hadn't thought about the idea of them putting out another scroll shooting game.
I'd be up for a hori.

The vid looks like it plays like a rock.
Hopefully something can be done to make it look nicer and more interesting, I -like- good 3d rail shooters.

Perhaps I should have ended the post with /joke rather than /sarcasm.SFKhoa wrote:I really don't understand the sarcasm aspect of your post, Kiken. :/
I would have thought that the made-up game titles would be a clue that I was obviously joking...
Maybe everyone is still heated over the whole Mushihime-sama figure thing...
Oh well, chalk it up to a failed attempt at brevity.
Uhmm... XIII-STAG?Skyline wrote:Follow-up to XII-STAG? Easy!
XXIV-STAG!

I agree with the sentiment of this topic though. Triangle asked for help, seems the got it... now it would be nice to know they're going to continue with more shmups.
By the way, I'm having a blast with Trizeal... keeps finding itself in my DC and getting a run through.

It's a great game... As Kiken wrote (I think this part was serious, anyway):the2bears wrote:By the way, I'm having a blast with Trizeal... keeps finding itself in my DC and getting a run through.

I totally agree. Triangle Service needs to think small and work toward progressively larger projects. I think a another Naomi game would be a smart choice, they have the tools already and Naomi titles port fairly well. Otherwise Nintendo DS and PSP are choices to consider too, both are cheaper to produce software for than current generation consoles.
I would like to see what Triangle could do with their Naomi experience, take a look at G.Rev, Under Defeat is thier third generation Naomi title and is looking as sharp as anything I've seen on the board. *-neo

OK I found the video, which, for the benefit of those who haven't yet seen it, is at:
http://www.triangleservice.co.jp/html/t ... lambda.mpg
I don't see what's so bad about this game. The gameplay looks like Sky Target to me, with a dash of Macross thrown in, and it'd be great IMO to have a game like Sky Target on the DC.
If Macross Digital Mission VFX is anything like what was shown in this video, I'd probably really enjoy it!

Jesus Christ, this looks like a poor mans Afterburner.
Triangle are gonna have to put out the mother-of-all SOS's to make me buy this one.

As for a XII Stag sequel- just call it XII Stag 2. I'd like to see that on Naomi.
Babelfish says "XII Stag" means "XII Steam Turbine and Gas Turbine System" if you translate from German to English- interesting.
Project Lambda doesn't look too bad- I noticed a little pop-up, but they can fix that later on. It reminded me of Galaxy Force II, so things could be decent with it.
I'm going to sink a bit of time into Trizeal this weekend.

Kinect? KIN NOT.
omg lol... how like this board... a few weeks ago people were saying the same things about Trizeal ;P i am downloading the video now though, to make my own judgement. i will probably hate it nomatter what if it's on rails, as that's not really my thing, but that is a matter of personal preference/bias.
Triangle Service:
If you release this POS, you will be FUBAR ASAP. No SOS will get you out of the CHAPT 11. IMHO, PDZ on SAT did what you are trying to attmpt and was a better game.
You will need not only some "samurais" like with Trizeal, but a whole "shogunate" in order to get people to like this game.
I can read the reviews now. "Omega Boost and Panzer Dragoon are better games than this. Heck even the despicable Murakumo on Xbox was more entertaining for a while. A demo trying to pass off as a game. Shoot it down as soon as you see it, and don't bother to salvage any of the wreckage"
@Dave: Macross VFX Digital Mission is an absolute piece of junk. Bandai is like the EA of Japan. Lots of franchises, crappy games. The game consists of using your radar to locate an enemy, find it, shoot missiles at it until you destroy it. Find next enemy. Repeat until you finish the game. Watching a documentary about the mating habits of dust mites is more interesting than this.
The only good Macross games are the Banpresto arcade, Macross 2036 and Robotech Battlecry.

Exactly. This is just the first video Triangle Service has even put out on this game; the final product may be a lot more polished. And some of us on this forum happen to LIKE rail shooters, and Galaxy Force II-style gameplay.umi wrote:omg lol... how like this board... a few weeks ago people were saying the same things about Trizeal ;P i am downloading the video now though, to make my own judgement. i will probably hate it nomatter what if it's on rails, as that's not really my thing, but that is a matter of personal preference/bias.
Indeed (as umi said as well). Project LAMBDA isn't even finished and no one has played it... and we already start with what it is and isn't? Please now!jp wrote:Isn't this roughly our reaction to Trizeal when they first started showing it?

This could easily hold true for Project LAMBDA as well, at least for some rail shooting fans. Maybe TRIZEAL was a fluke, maybe it wasn't. I'll have a better idea once I've played their next game, whichever it is! I get the feeling that they could be announcing something soon. I'm really looking forward to it! More shooting to pick and choose from; What's not to appreciate?Although by no means technically stunning, it is a joy to play.

Plus; You wished the guy at Triangle Service luck, and he got it. You hoped that those of us whom bought Trizeal enjoy it, and we do. All's well that ends well!

You just reminded me about Immaterial and Missing Power, which I got, like, yesterday (which I also favor the character artwork over the original, by the way. *activates cloaking device to hide from potential bullet barrages*). I'm surprised the developers borrowed a control mechanic that I've only seen in Tech Romancer and used it here. It's kind of funny how my laptop's cooling fans move up to maximum speed in order to cool down the video card because the hardware's so old (it's one of those custom-model Radeons for laptops back in 2002).icepick wrote:I'm happy for you! To even go more off-topic, Imperishable Night is quite fun. Then you get to stage 4, and then... and then the bosses bring black flashbacks of Slow Mode in Gekioh: Shooting King. Then I want to cry.
Back on topic, this new game from Triangle Service reminds me of those 3rd person perspective segments (the hardest part of the stage too) from the Sega Master System version of Thunder Blade, except the camera rotates and the enemy is still firing at you even when you're not facing their general direction. This... surprisingly shows promise to me.
Given the current line of discussion, I'd like to throw in an additional question:
Having completed the DC release of Trizeal, should Triangle Service work on another project or should they consider porting Trizeal to another console?
Now, if you think they should consider doing a port, what console should they port it to (for the sake of arguement, let's assume that they can only afford to port to one of the current "Big 3")?
