hori fighting stick PS3

Post by TRU »

hey board :P

i have some questions about the hori FS3.

first of all: will it work on PC using MAME etc.?

im thinking about getting one (due to reasonable price and availability in my area, unlike HRAP's) of those to play shmups and shmups only.

Does anyone know how it feels, plays etc. in comparison to a HRAP. Talking about everything like overall size, hows the stick, how are the buttons, is it even suited to play shmups? What are the differences between the hori FS3 and the hori RAP3, put aside the size.

Also any links to locations that still have the HRAP3 on stock (within europe only) would be highly appreciated.

thanks for the answers in advance :)

Hori Fighting Stick 3 vs. RAP-3 vs. Sega VSHG showdown...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

The Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 joystick & the Hori Fighting Stick 3, both for the PS3 are USB enabled and will work on a PC laptop/tower setup using WinXP or Vista OS...

I, personally, don't have a Hori FS3 joystick myself but only the RAP-3 joystick and the Sega Virtua Stick High Grade joystick...

The RAP-3, if placed on a sturdy table or desk platform, won't budge if the joystick is shoved due the the hefty metallic base installed underneath the joystick base...

The VSHG has all Sanwa arcade parts installed from the get-go whereas the RAP-3 only has just a Sanwa joystick and Hori generic arcade push buttons...

Hori did release such a special RAP-3 SA variant with all Sanwa arcade parts for both joystick and push buttons...

Both the RAP-3 and the VSHG will work just fine with Mame emulation but if you want to use it with other PC doujin shmup software, you'll have to use a 3rd-party keyboard mapping utility such as Joy2Key program...

By spending a bit more for such a VSHG, you'll be glad knowing that you're getting world-class arcade stick for both PS3 and PC purposes. Of course, you can always swap the Sanwa arcade parts with Seimitsu joystick and push buttons...either way, you can't go wrong. ^_~

cool, thanks for that. The VSHG sounds awesome, too bad they're sold out everywhere.. i guess i have to wait for one to pop up on ebay, or do you know any site that still have some?
btw, is there a joystick out there that has seimitsu parts installed from stock, that doesnt have to be modded? (talking all consoles)

FS3 is crap compared to vshg or hrap, in pretty much every aspect. (buttons are same as hrap, but still worse because they're pcb mounted)

Hori will begin another batch of PS3 RAP-3 for June '08!

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

For TRU,

On it's website, National Console Support Inc. based out of New York in the USA, will be selling Hori's second manufactured batch of it's PS3 Real Arcade 3 joysticks next month in June 0f 2008. Tis better to pre-order one and "just bite the bullet" to buy six Sanwa or Seimitsu branded arcade push buttons to replace the stock Hori push buttons...

All japanese sticks are useless for shmups, even Sanwas and Seimitsus. Do yourself a favour and buy a Suzo stick.

Whatever floats your boat, man. I'm personally for Seimitsu joysticks and push buttons all the way... ^_~

Why not? Suzos have a much shorter engage and much less slop than any japanese stick . . .
