thing is whats romantic? I bought a girl flowers on her birthday and she was in tears another (not while i was seeing the other one I may add) I bought flowers . . "just because" and she flamed me with WELL! thats not very original, I mean flowers? Could you not think of anyhting else. needless to say the latter was binned pretty quickly.

Good date. My birthday and the first day of summer.

I'm actually happily married. Going on 3 years and we were dating years before that. My wife actually gives me plenty of slack when it comes to video game spending habits.

I guess I'm a rare exception... She doesnt play at all though, but shes quite nice about my hobbies.

I didn't plan on it!

I'm friends with a number of married women, and they have either cheated on their husbands before marriage/during marriage or whatever. Sometimes they leave them, sometimes they don't. It's enough to make you crazy, if you really think about it. Considering my last girlfriend left me for a "friend". That Biz Markie song is in my head now. lol

But seriously, I have a massive distrust of women. Although I know they have a massive distrust of us. I think i'll just stick to getting laid every once in a while to calm the nerves, and playing video games. And of course, eating.

It's the first day of winter here. But it was the day we begun our relationship (It was a winter's solstice party actually), so it only made sense to marry on the same day. It's also the birthday of a big friend of mine, which kinda pisses him off, hehe :)

My soon-to-be-wife also is very nice towards my hobby too... like I said, she doesn't care much about playing games, but she never bothers me about me liking it. (And when friends come around to play she's usually very nice to them and stuff).

Hell, I find it to be hard enough to find another person that likes shmups around here, let alone a woman...who likes me, who I like. The odds are very bad.

Maybe antron and his wife...? He said she was very "pro-arcade-cab-in-the-house-making-lots-of-shooting-noises"

The closest my fiancé will get to a "shmup" is Metal Slug. Not that I mind!

the main problem with marriage is:
people getting married when they are too young/immature
people getting married too quickly

 you know what i mean!

take britney spears as an example - she failed on both points, and look at how that panned out

i think you need to live together for *at least* a couple of years before getting hitched. a lot can change in that time :?

I think women want to get married a hell of alot more than men do, I just don't like the idea of some chick coming along spending my cash and wasting my time while shes shopping for pointless material possessions. I'm definelty to lazy to have children, maybe too selfish aswell but I'm still young so I've another 10-15 before really thinking about it.

The day I'm told to stop gaming is the day I die.

Most of us probably spend far too much money on our gaming, which could arguably be considered pointless material possessions. ;)

Buying a metric ton of video games is almost vane, though I'm surely just as guilty. I spend all my spare unbudgeted money on games, mostly.

Sexless? When you're married, you pretty much get sex when you want it. I'm more attracted to my wife now than when we first went out 15 years ago, so this just sounds stupid to me.

Unhappy? Will you be less unhappy all by yourself? Good luck with that.

Bickering? You have to learn how to work through things without all the drama. Sometimes a lack of intelligence or some sort of deep incompatibility is going to get in the way. That's sad. Sometimes going to couples therapy can help.

Where I live in the middle of America in a small town most people are married and divorce rates are very low. People seem basically happy. The main person here that seems unhappy is my friend who is 40 and unmarried.

Having kids is a huge chore, so if you're lazy you may want to think twice. In the usual case you will end up with something you care about more than yourself, though, so the sacrifices become reasonable.
I thought we were BFF's, Ganny. I guess the married life has you on edge. I qualified for MENSA this year if you must know (standardized test for grad school admission, I have no interest in actually joining).

Anyway, I'm not bitching, it's just that a lot of people I know are getting divorced right now. Human beings are meant to have a small number of alpha males porking all the babes, with betas getting some only occasionally, like other apes, none of the 1:1 ratio stuff. It's forcing a square peg into a round hole IMO.

Good luck Undamned.

Most people tend to get married too quickly, too young, and just because they found someone half attractive they like to fuck.

Very rarely do I see couples that seem to have got it "right". Off the top of my head I can think of three married couples I know in the really-real world that seem like they actually love each other. And this includes all my relatives.

If relationship choices between humans, like those of apes and other animals, were based solely on the end goal of passing along the "best" genetic material to the next generation, I might agree with you, but it's simply not the way things are. Human relationships are based on something more, something deeper...

My only issue with "marriage" is that I don't feel the need for my relationship to get a seal of approval from some bogus-ass state or bogus-ass religion. Fuck 'em both, as far as I'm concerned. Mind you, I'm not slagging folks who do choose to tie the knot. Just sayin'.

I should mention that I've been with the same wonderful, scintillatingly gorgeous gal for over twelve years now, outlasting the majority of peeps I know who actually got hitched.

The one problem with this approach is that you and your girl don't get the same legal protections without the "seal of approval".

Let's be overly-dramatic. Say one of you gets into some horrible accident and ends up in a coma. The other has zero right to determine how they're cared for, what hospital they go to, or even whether the feeding tube stays in. Should they die, there'll be miles of paperwork regarding jointly-owned posessions—maybe even a long, ugly court battle.

Shit like that (and a little bit of a tax break...though not nearly enough) is why couples who don't care about the pomp and circumstance still get married.

...I'm not saying "OMG GO TIE THE KNOT", but you may want to talk to somebody about the legal BS of marriage vs. cohabitation.

Okay this is dumb. Gibbons mate for life. Bonobo ladies, our closest relatives, fuck everybody but their sons.

Also, there are so few ape species living (I count 7 classically, with a few more revealed by DNA evidence) that analogies among them are forcing a square peg into a round hole IMO.

For instance, you might consider it significant that humans have periods and most other apes have heat.

Yeah, that's basically the main reason we are doing getting the bogus-state seal of approval. My health plan can only cover her if we are actually married. When we try to buy a house together, it's a lot easier if we are married instead of just "living together".

Parties are always good, so have a marrying party isn't bad at all :)
