I want New Wave music!

Post by dpful »

I can't remember the name, but I think it's S.S. Mission.

Here's what I've got so far:

*updated list*
S.S. Mission
Darius Gaiden
Darius
Last Hope?
G-Darius?

It seems like a lot of Zuntata's stuff is kind of new wave

Rayforce and Ray Crisis have some new wave sounding bits, but I think there's better than that.

Are there any more shmups with new wave music in them? I need a list.

Yeah - what kind of new wave are we talking?

New Wave to me means asymmetric floppy hair cuts, oversized androgynous clothing; post-punk politics but driving a sports car while wanking off over your reflection as you snort coke off the same mirror and talk through a keyboard about robotic love...

All that said I love that kind of new wave music.

I describe Darius Gaiden's music as trance-y, although I don't think it qualifies as "real" trance.

Off the top of my head I would recommend to you later Tangerine Dream and Moby. Zuntata's other game music is somewhat similar. The music of G.Darius and Raystorm is sort of like Darius Gaiden.

The music of Raiden III is more upbeat but you might like that too.

Last Hope.

(although New Wave music to me is more like B52's, with Guitars and stuff.)

That's brilliant. All I think about is Devo turning to shit.

I think the Music in Darius 1986 arcade is the closest a shmup as been to "new wave"

Especially Inorganic Beat (level 2) and Cosmic Air Way (level 3)

wait a sec ill post a link.

I saw Devo turn to shit on stage once. It was at this Microsoft event so everybody there was there through circumstance rather than musical taste.

Poor bastard didn't have a hope.

I did however, secure an official Devo Power Hat. That's not a shmup though, so I'm taking things dangerously off topic.

That said, a Devo shmup, or just a New Wave/New Romantic shooter would be fucking incredible.

It would need some Oingo Boingo "I'm a single for the movie" type song.

I guess I meant....
Post-disco, electronic, high melodic content, high pop sensibility,
minus the heavy metal, techno, other.

Darius Gaiden has some trance-y stuff, but it's also got some strong melodic stuff, especially during boss fights, that I thought sounded particularly new-wave

That description of spadgy's-- what games have that kind of music?

Here you go, the closest you can get to New Wave music in a shmup.

For some reason, I thought of "Liquid Sky - The Game", even though I've never seen it, only read about it.

In other words the Pet Shop Boys.

Actually if you like some guitar I recommend Coordinate by T.M.Revolution.

By New Wave I did mean the early 80s stuff, but as for shmups featuring that kind of thing? I really don't know.

This has made me ponder the lack of shooters with soundtracks rather than scores/OSTs. Guess they just don't have the money.

The G.Darius OST is some mix between New Wave and Industrial. One of my favourite OST's ever. Check it out!

This is fantastic. I want more like that.
You should mame S.S. Mission.
Maybe a lot of the good shmups were made just as new wave was going out.
