2DF FreePlay - Low-lag online play for Twinkle Star Sprites!
Hello all, figured some of you might be interested in this:
http://www.2dfighter.com
The front page lays out all the steps you'll need to go through - this program uses its own emulator (a slightly modified NeoFBA), so once you get your account the only thing you will need to do is specify a rom folder.
As you can tell from the name and game list, this mainly focuses on fighting games, which is what got me interested. Yesterday, however, he added TSS after a couple recommendations. =)
The interface is very nice - a different room for each game, a chat window, quick and easy matchmaking (just find someone and right click to challenge him!), and it apparently even has a tournament mode (though I'm not sure how to use it). If any of you are familiar with GGPO, this is very similar in that regard but with a couple neat extras; it tells you the number of people in each room, and you can do ranked matches using the Elo rating system ala chess.
Now, how good is the online play itself? After all, all the bells & whistles in the world mean nothing if the games lag to hell and back!
Well, it's good. DAMN good. Some actually consider it superior to GGPO, while others believe it is slightly worse, but it absolutely blows everything else out of the water! Even when playing people from long distances, you will only have 1 or 2 frames of delay (the window lies when it says 4 or 5 or whatever). This is because NeoFBA uses some sort of technique to remove most of the distance-based lag.
In short, if you like TSS, this is your dream program! =)
Have fun,
Josh.

He's insanely broken in CE because there no recovery time after the scissor kick.

I wish he would've given me a chance with other characters.

Well, I had a nice game of TSS with Josh tonight; too bad I don't really know anything about the game except that it exists so I was playing more for survival than damaging Josh. Of course, since cute-em-ups/loli sorta repulse me, I don't plan on learning the game either.
BTW, if there's any other shooter that people would like to play online there, just list it. I can ask damdai to include them on the site if people want to play them.
