After playing the bowling game, and seeing more artwork, etc. would Mushihime-sama fall under as a "cute'em up"?

No, except for the cute main character nothing else is cute about the game. The enemies all are hideous looking creatures :P

Insects are so cool and mysterious. In an Arcadia interview with the artist, he compared them to "living mecha" and said he hopes the game makes players like bugs more. ha :)

They are a crazy-ass kingdom (or whatever category they fall in). They still creep me out though. After snorkling, I've got a new found love of sea life, but still don't dig Darius. :)

Noting how much havoc regular ol' hornets, horseflies, etc. can wreak on my person as it is, I've always taken the absence of space-age weaponry in arthropods as something of a blessing myself, heh.

You should see some of the concept art for the bug enemies in Arcadia's Mushihimesama Graphic Arts. Absolutely incredible, very detailed.

Cave definitely did their research into insect anatomy for the development of Mushi.

What issue # is that? I think I may know which one, if it's a back issue I believe that's the one with the artist quote I mentioned. Does anyone know if Tomoyuki Kotani just designed Reko or did he help design the bugs too?

And on musing over bugs as real life "weapons," or "mecha," anyone ever see nature footage of that tropical beatle which excretes a deadly, smoking acid chemical that can melt holes in leaves? Can you imagine one of those beetles as big as a dog or as big as Reko's bug? A beastie that big alone could do some damage, maybe melt your hand off at least.

Interesting thing I have read, scientists say that it would be almost impossible for bugs to be as big as the ones in say, Starship Troopers (or Mushihime). Because even if they could reach that size, their weight/proportion multiplied mathematically would render them immobile somehow (again, it's assumed). That's what some scientists have said anyways. Maybe someone here can elaborate on this better.

They don't really scare me (visually anyways), except for the praying mantis. I'm really glad we don't have those here in North Dakota (well, not where i am anyways). Something so creepy about the way they stand upright sort of like a creepy, spindly little green man hiding in the trees with bulging alien eyes.

Taito's official site for the PS2 port is open: http://www.taito.co.jp/d3/cp/mushihimesama/

Looks like this is what the figure will look like. Def. glad I'm going for the regular edition.

Yeah.. rather artistic to have the wind blowing her little dress so high up, huh? :/

You never know... maybe she wore underoos as a kid and decided at 15 that she didn't need them anymore.... of course.. who am I joking. I guess we can all "look forward" to the webmasters on DOAONLINE taking about 300 photographs of her 6 year-old rear end.

Count on it! The younger the better, as far as he's concerned.

If Cave REALLY wanted to throw us for a loop they'd give her some huge polka-dot boxer shorts or bloomers or something, since after seeing the first model it'd be the last thing anyone would be expecting.

FFS move along people. Lets talk about the game instead of the bollocks that has been spake over the last page and a half.

i think i'll go pre order my game now - might even get two, this one looks like its going to be BIG.

I wonder if they'll take the plunge and do progear too, after the realitively high preorders of mushi. It would be probably too much to ask for a port of guwange, altho that would be top of my list

Plaid! ;) Most likely not the case, though...

Although, now that I think about it... Disney did something similiar in a scene from A Goofy Movie.

Sounds like a good package to me. Getting some rough sketches and other pre-dev illustrations. Doesn't mention anything about replay though. :(

Given that Taito's last 2 ports (Giga Wing Generations and Psikyo Shooting Collection 3) didn't include a Super Play DVD, I think we can assume that one will not be included with Mushihime-sama.

However, that opens up possibilities for NIH or MCS to bring us a far more professional Superplay DVD. I'd actually prefer that MCS handle it, since they're the only company I've ever seen the take the care to include both Yoko and Tate presentations of the replays. Granted, NIH always include loads of extras with their DVDs.

Is that the LE or both? I'm going for the normal edition; a figure doesn't really appeal to me, esp. not a little kid.

Well if I'm not mistaken, game mode screens on the TAITO site definitely seem to indicate TATE.

And the little figure is cute in a cartoon/manga way, but it's better suited for a little girl. Even then it's a little odd though. I guess with crazy naked young Goku it shouldn't surprise us though. Hrm. :?

Is that talking about an art gallery on the disc or when you get the LE you get the figure and a set of sheets with concept art, ect.?

The talk of sketches and whatnot are mentioned in the "game mode" subsection of the page, so I'm sure they're just images like those found in ESPGaluda. Not sure why they put the info there. They do also mention of practice mode (stage select).

According to the page, the figure is the only thing different coming w/ the LE. Both are 1 DVD-ROM. And when I mentioned replay before, I meant super replays (or even replay save mode). Not a DVD. Would love to get super replays later down the road in a Famitsu or something.

Thanks for the clarification. Does it say anything about TATE on the game mode page?

years of watching random crap on tv pays off yet again. iirc the main problem was the exoskeleton. scaled up, it would either be too heavy or too thick, and the space left for muscles and stuff wouldnt be able to support itself, and the thickness would screw with the air holes. or something. if the shell was thinned down, then it wouldnt be strong enough to support the insides.
If Cave REALLY wanted to throw us for a loop they'd give her some huge polka-dot boxer shorts or bloomers or something, since after seeing the first model it'd be the last thing anyone would be expecting.
how about some cave/mushi branded diapers? a hint of things to come?

ps2 port, figurine, diapers...profit!

Reminds me of the "shmup-themed underwear" topic we had going some time back...methinks that brought out the worst in a lot of us, myself included.
