Plus if you rip it in frustration, it's only -$5.

On a related note, I was wondering what the differences were between Raiden Project and the arcade hits versoin of Raiden.

Any ideas?

If I'm not mistaken the Arcade Hits Raiden just has Raiden I and not Raiden II.

My only cautionary note is that Raiden Project (US) does not have tate. If you know you are going to want tate, you might as well save the money for the import. Otherwise, $5 is one hell of a bargain.

That may be true, but it has the nice feature of having the choice between the original soundtrack for either game, or a new arranged soundtrack for either game. It also has a lot of other features that deal with sizing the screen to your likings (positioning score & bomb/life icons, etc.) Trust me, it's WELL WORTH $5 for disc only. I was fortunate enough to pick up a complete copy several years ago before they became ultra-rare for under $20.

More accurately, it does, but...

Are the ports 100% accurate except for tate? I'm talking graphics here. raiden II was such a beautiful game, it's hard for me to believe that it was 100% good as far as graphics go.

In other words, it doesn't have tate, but it does have tateyoko.

Wait a sec. Doesn't the JP version have these options as well?

the jp version has arranged soundtrack, but lacks a few of the screen options. The pal version has every option AND tate, but runs 16% slower.

This is just me being naive, but might it be possible to have a GameShark code or something that would flip the controls for you? It seems like the kind of thing that could be gotten around.

It might be possible, but it's probably not the sort of code your usual Gameshark code makers are going to be looking for. (I mean, if it doesn't give you infinite lives or invincibility, what's the point, right?)

Raiden Roject is the Arcade Perfect conversion of Raiden 1 & 2, with awesome arranged music tracks & 3 video display options. You can choose the display to take up the whole screen, rather than those shity black borders on the sides of the screen. (Aka Gunbird 2 & Ikaruga DC & a lot of othervertical shmup coneverted onto consoles)

Although the US verison does not have a true TATE mode, it is still a good buy. I mean c'mon, IT'S FREAKING RAIDEN I&II!!! No shmupper should be without it!

are you sure the JP version cab doesnt either? it wouldnt make much sense to change that.

im also wondering if there's difficulty differences between the ps1 jp version and the us and pal one, and the arcade versions.

raiden II difficulty doesnt make sense at time, but someone told me the arcade is even HARDER. im guessing the arcade version of raiden 2 doesnt have autofire either, right? oh man what a messed up game, im playing with autofire, and probably wouldnt lay a finger on it without it.

raiden 1 however makes more sense without autofire (as in: it doesnt take 5 minutes to kill a powerup carrier without it)
