Very controlled play. They are usually close to 5,000 by the end of the first stage. I delay killing things in stage2 until they have fired off all their destroyable bullets/missiles. If I'm playing really well, my medals are at 30,000 at the end of the first section in stage2.

it's all about the yumechan! to be fair, it doesn't make a massive difference. but if an enemy shoots a three-way spreadshot, with bullets that can be destroyed (and therefore possibly become gems), after a yumechan spree, it will shoot *five* bullets and so on. also, the third boss shoots red orbs at the same rate, but more of them with each pattern.

the first, third, fourth, and sixth bosses, you do not want to kill. they all fire projectiles that can be destroyed, and become blue gems. if you're really playing for score, you'll milk them entirely, and not kill them at all.

Actually, you'll probably want to kill them just before they run away and get the 100,000 (whatever) pts.

Yeah, the first boss especially can be quite dodgy when it walks off the screen.

Best to finish it just before it leaves.

tell that to WTN and ISO

meanwhile...back at the ranch... stage 1 boss is easy to survive as it goes under you if you get the timing right. difficult part is *remembering* to still press shoot, and not get done in by a missile whilst chasing those last couple of gems

this is another part where auto-fire is very useful.

Well it's clear they weren't going for their optimal scores while playing the submitted runs. Otherwise the WOULD have had to do that. :P

no.

two blue gems are worth more than boss destruction. killing stage 1 boss will mean you lose out on at least two blue gems from the missiles shot just before he goes off screen.

That COULD happen... if you don't plan correctly. You'd better not get the blue gems (which you aren't able to collect anyway) and kill the boss instead, which are a guarenteed 100K. :?

That accounts for 1 of the 4 bosses you mentioned, though. Did I miss something or did the rest offer nothing before/while they run off?

the problem is not the bonus.

if a boss escapes, you're unable to move as he goes away, if you kill him, you can still move for a while. since there's usually always some blue gems onscreen at the end of first boss, it's better to kill him as the timer is near 0 (which is pretty easy to do, at least with the windina) and collect the remaining gems than to let him escape and hopelessy being stuckt in place watching 2 or more medals go away. you COULD stop shooting before he goes away, but that would be useless since you wouldn't get medals.

for the second boss, it doesnt matter since he doesnt spit anything, and for the third, missing a couple medals doesnt matter since value is already maxed, and you can't move after you destroy him anyway, so it's a good idea to collect all medals before doing so.

i tried the yumechan trick for the first time the other day, and beat my high score at the end of stage 5, but it didn't matter much since i haven't played for so long that i couldn't remember what to do at the boss and lost my 3 lives, i suck.

what's the best places to use yumechans? i used it a little before the first...thing that spits dozens of little drones in stage 1, so i got the few ennemies that are right before it and the drones themselves, is there a better place?

you can collect the gems. besides, it's not about the points for stage 1, it's about absorbing as many blue gems as possible. i score higher on stage 1 than ISO or WTN, but that doesn't mean anything. not only are they getting the gems up to 5,000, they're halfway there to getting them up to 8,000! you need to be collecting as many as possible.

the bosses have no health bars. considering the boss bonus is only worth 1.22 blue gems, the time and trial & error involved isn't worth it. especially if you kill it too quick. i don't think it's even possible to milk *and* destroy stage 6 boss. stage 4 boss, if you're milking it's second form, after the 4th repeat, there's only about 5 seconds before it flies off the screen. and with the 3rd stage boss, there is a way to make him repeat his 2nd form attack *three* times...

Tell that to RTH and GKO-PIY!

Seriously, I destroyed the 4th boss after the four attacks most of the time. It feels good. The stage 6 boss just seems to terminate while milking, so yeah. If only that could be milked thoroughly.

Well damn, Icarus, you should've said something earlier.

Wow - I only check back here every few weeks so sorry for the late update!

I've added the scores in this thread, I'll change the rules to allow autofire, and disallow Peplos.

BBH - 42,590,820 - Stage 7 - Windina

I know most people hate this game after last year's STGT, but I've been taking it back up again after a local arcade got it out of nowhere.

Replay is available at MARP.

RF2's 54mil isn't too far off  .
The best I could do is about 41-42mil, without final Boss milking that is. Which I found very difficult :? .

Again, IT COMPLIMENTS!

wow RF2, nice score. :)

BBH - 48,915,370 - ALL - Windina

Not that it matters too much since it doesn't look like this thread is updated any more.
