Need help with forcing MAME into yoko...

Post by Milkgoat »

I'm using MAME32 ver .91, and it's displaying all my vertical shmups in tate no matter what I do, and I can't turn this monitor on it's side. I tried deleting all the ini. files and it still does it. I remember this happened once before, but I don't remember what I did to fix it. I would use the newest MAME, but for some reason, it only wants to play half of the games I have. Thanks in advance.

Go to options, default game options, then mess with the rotation choices on the display tab. That might help.

I tried that and none of them worked right for some reason.

Did you try to rotate clockwise/anti-clockwise? That works fine here :|

Tried banging on the number pad's 0/Ins key? I don't remember if .91 is new enough to use the new video system, but it's worth a try...should also be a GUI option to rotate it as well.

open the mame ini file (in the root mame directory), copy the "mame core video options" section and post here.

edit: then look for the line norotate and disable it

I downloaded a new MAME (same version), and it's still doing it even though I haven't fiddled with it at all.

Also, I checked the MAME ini, and couldn't find any section titled "mame core video options".

Also, 0/ins didn't do anything.

Set rotation to default in video options. If that doesn't work, simply delete mame.ini and whole cfg folder.

This happened to me recently when I installed MAME to another machine. What you need to do is go to "Options --> Default game options," then click on the "Advanced" tab, then uncheck "Stretch using hardware."

It still does it after all that. You guys don't need to help anymore if you don't want. I'll just play vertical games at someone else's house.

When this happened to me on one computer I had to play the games windowed to get them to work properly. It's not anything near an ideal solution, but it'll get them running at the right ratio and orientation.

At this point, I'd say try another version of MAME. Get the most recent MamePlus or WolfMAME.
