Cell phones have rendered watches useless.

"They should at least make 100K to have a good life"

i dig that tokyo flash site, too bad i really don't use watches (since cell phones were mainstream)... as mentioned above.

i checked YAJ for the SE watch, and no hits. i'd suggest to just look periodically, you might get lucky.

I've got a Centipede wristwatch. It's LCD, not LED, though.

Nonsense, it's much more difficult to quickly and discreetly check your cell phone, particularly if it has no external screen that's always on. Not to mention the cool factor of watches.

For the last few years I've been rockin' a sweet 80's style Timex digital, but I've had a few stylin' LED watches in the past. My favorite novelty watch is this one I have that has a little wheel on the side that lets you make vinyl scratching noises whenever you feel like.

Yeah, watches are awesome. I've been to Tokyoflash a long time ago, but now that you've reminded me of their existence I'm probably going to end up wasting a bunch of money that I really ought to be saving...

That space invaders watch is pretty cool too, is there any way to get it in America?

I think the next best thing to LED watches (as far as retro timepieces) is jump hour watches. Just do a search, they rule. Totally mechanical, yet every bit as easy to read at a glance :D

If you want some cool looking watches try typing tokyoflash into eBay.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.

Tokyo Flash isn't the only store in the universe to carry those watches, its just how he supports himself while living in Japan. I bought a watch off ebay for like $8 from some HK company. Tokyo Flash used to sell the same exact watch for like $20-$30. It was a jump hour made by S'Quare.

Uh, are the ones on Amazon really the genuine article? If so, all the bad reviews suggest that these things are rather shoddily manufactured. The designs grabbed my attention, but the apparent combination of high price, poor quality materials, and difficulty of battery replacement turned me right off.

Don't know.
Just suggested in case anyone was looking for a domestic seller of these watches.
I wouldn't be caught dead with these watches myself...I have a classic Tag Heuer that I wear to work instead of these trendy led monstrosities.

I also prefer a more classic style. I mostly carried a pocketwatch until 4 or 5 years ago, when I received one of these from a rather affluent family member...

It took a while to get used to and I've gotten comments about it at the workplace, because by all rights I could never afford to buy one in my lifetime. Still, it should last me longer than any cellular phone and I never need to replace a battery. I just have to make sure I wear it every day or wind it up on days that I don't wear it.

Heh, my sentiments, exactly :D Oh, awesome! A DIVER watch! I've never seen one of those! I feel the same about Rolex's. I did watch a piece on how they are manufactured and they are definitely a high grade machine, but if I wanted that look, I'd rather buy one knock-off every few years than throw down $5k.

As far as expensive, well crafted watches, I will say I have a sweet spot for Richard Mille ( http://www.richardmille.com ). I've got a watchbook that has a feature on his work and it's amazing. Granted you can pay $75k for some of his pieces, but I'm having a hard time believing you are ever going to run into someone else w/ one of his watches :D

VFD = "Vacuum Florescent Display" is still be being used in some electronics today. It was used in many of the cool early 1980's tabletop electronic games like the Coleco arcade tabletop games and the Nintendo Game & Watch Tabletop games as well.

Some pretty cool LED-based watches there... ^_~
