Music Balancing for compilations

Post by undamned »

So, one of the annoying things about making comps. is that not all CD's have the same volume level so sometimes I find myself having to adjust volume while listening to the quieter songs.

Is there a good application (windows based) that can help balance the volume of each song to match? I do remember that you can have Winamp play to a file. Does this mean that whatever equalizer settings you've set will carry over to the generated file? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! :D

I use NERO and it has a little check box to automatically equalize the volume for all of the tracks.

iTunes can do this automatically as well.

Check out ReplayGain. A lot of applications and filetypes support it.

Dude, different volumes between tracks is what makes a good comp album. Nothing can be finer than a shift from Debussy to Guitar Wolf 8) . Do you really want the listener of your compilation to just be sitting there, passively listening to it in the backround  ?
