shmups for cellphones?

Post by Kaspal »

hello there folks...
i've recently hopped into the van of fancy cellphones... got a Nokia N73 Music Edition (ok ok... not so fancy, but still pretty good phone imo), and i know they have (limited) gaming capablities, so i was wondering if anyone here know of a somewhat complete shmup list available for mobile plattforms (like java games, S60 and NGage)??...

i already have Siberian Strike X (Ep. 1 & 2), and bloody fairie...

thx in advance folks.

Cave did some ports if I understand correctly (or was it just the DDP one and that flyer in my ESP PS2 is just confusing me?), though I'm pretty sure being on the right network and the like is a pain in the arse...

There have been loads of straight-to-cell games, but if you check out a site like Pocket Gamers (based here in the UK) you'll see most are steaming turds when it comes to gameplay...

Why don't cell phone manuafacturers make such a cellphone with something similair to the game controls featured on the Gameboy Micro? Would be easier to play such downloaded cellphone games with such a setup as that...

For zap,

Yeah, something like what you posted with an, indeed, better d-pad setup...

Is that a high-rez LCD screen on your cell phone? Looks like the PSP Ridge Racer on there, is it?

Gunbird was worth the money for it´s download...

That was on my K300i (ancient stuff by now I think) though which has a relatively nice `joystick´ for a mobile.

For a mobile version it was relavant enough for me to like playing it. :)

There was a shmup on the b/w Nokia cellphone I used to have. It was very simplistic and not very impressive. I forgot the name of it. I played Snake much more.

No idea if it'shigh-res. It's a friend's phone. Here's the homepage for it
http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/product/foma ... index.html
It comes preinstalled with Ridge Racer Mobile.
(There's one for Softbank too, and probably also for au)

Nice flip-over screen, built in tate ability! :D

Just so long as the controls aren't messed up in one orientation or another, that is - the control pad looks awkwardly oriented for the hoizontal setting.

The P905i is sexy... my brother has one. Ridge racer comes with 3 cars and one track, the rest have to be bought.

A Cave flyer that came with... something, probably Ibara or Mushi, lists Progear, DD Puchi, DDP DOJ, esprade, feveron, ketsui, guwange, uo poko, and esprade pinball. There's a section of the Cave site with this stuff, but I can't be bothered looking around to dig it up.

Try Gradius NEO or Air Strike 1944, I played it on my Nokia 6600 and works well.

The main flaw that NEO only support 176x220 screen resolutions (which was fit on most Sony Ericsson phones), meaning if you play the game with big / small screen sizes yet still playable but with windowed or corrupted screen. And for Air Strike it doesn't have diagonal movement and the player ship animations is bit choppy though.
