Power problems-problem refined- still need help

Post by dpful »

I set up a new arcade cab, and the screen had a faint bar rolling by every couple of seconds. I thought it was some wierd interference from the cab next to it or something, when I noticed that they were ALL rolling! I've going to try unplugging each one and isolate whether one is causing it or not. Does anyone have any ideas about what would cause that? Or how to fix it?

Any power experts here who would know the 120v/monitor connection?

After some expirimenting, it turns out that I've just got a few cabs that will jack up the cab next to it, and a few cabs that are VERY sensitive to the cab next to them, no matter what they do to the others.

so... "this device may cause unwanted interference" is the sentence of the day.

Is there anything I can do? The effect is always a dim bar rolling down the screen, sometimes fast, sometimes slow (depends on the cab). I've got some of the cabs set in the right spots, but I need to know if there's a way to fix it. Condition the power somehow? Can I shield the cabinets somehow?
Seroiusly, if they could all be a foot apart, I think they'd be fine, but I need them right next to each other.

Right now, my life is a video game. I think it's called "Shove It" on the Genesis.

Maybe a grounding issue? some of the cabs only have 2 prong plugs, but that deosn't seem to corrolate to the one's that are causeing problems.

I'd really like to find some way to shield them.

Not sure if this will help, but if they are all on the same string of outlets, maybe you can try separating every other cab on a different outlet by using an extension cord to another outlet in your house? I had to do something similar in my garage, but mostly because I was overloading one circuit with to many cabs.

Another common sense thing I've learned along the way are flurecent lights on the same circuit may cause interference. You could try removing all the flurecent tubes in the cabs to isolate which one is cause the interference. Then replace it with a new tube/starter.

Lastly, positions of the cabs in your house, against walls which have power mains running through it can sometimes cause interference with the monitors (mostly color impurities).
