Advice for arcade auctions?

Post by Daedalus »

There's an amusement machine auction tomorrow I'm planning on attending. I'd really like to get a Japanese style cabinet on the odd chance they have any. Can anyone tell me what a good price is for something like that? And any other advice you have for a first-time auction goer?

If any of y'all have been to an arcade auction before, share your experiences.

Anywhere between $180 and $1,000. It really depends on the cabinet. Take a trailer, and decide on how much you're willing to spend before you go, so you don't go crazy and bid way more than you really should.

If you do spot a Taito Egret II cabinet, please to inspect it to see what condition it is in...you might have to do some restoration depending on what condition it is in, of course.

Egret II cabinets are famous for their easy of rotating the monitors with just one hand...

Good luck in that arcade game auction -- the sky's the limit when it comes to bidding..... ^_~

Quick rundown, but your already there. One thing some folks forget is that an auction can be mad boring if what you want is near the end...waiting hours for 10-20 seconds of bidding.

Was this the one in DFW? If so, I was there for all of 30 minutes. There were a couple of interesting cabs there. Only one candy...sort of.

There were 2 Capcom Impresses at the auction I went to a few weeks ago. I think one went for a couple hundred and one went for less than $100 as it was not working.

You will never find any Egret IIs or any kind of expensive candy at these things in my experience.
People I have dealt with successfully: bleem (x2), spazicon, sven666, sparky, iatneH, Dragon1952, kozo, Ghegs

Or was it the one on St Pete Beach Florida? I was briefly there but missed the arcade stuff. RF Jet gone!

Heh heh, "Get Bass". I was hoping to find some of those but they only had a Neo Geo MVS-u4 that had been modified to play a kiddie game called "Eggs Playing Chicken". It was very shameful.

There's a Blast City at my local Wal-mart of all places.

Hahaha, they had two here as well. I actually went to the Milwaukee auction (by that company "Super Auctions"...)

Prices were kind of weird at it. There were a couple of 60 in 1 multicades that went for like $600 while most decent games (working w/ cabinet, etc) sold for under $300. But yeah, I wasn't able to find the cabinet I was looking for.

The Taito Egret II looks pretty nice. If I'm unlikely to find such a thing at an auction (next one isn't until sept anyways), where's the best place to find something like that? And how much do they usually go for? (I would most likely need some place willing to ship as well, since I doubt there are many in Wisconsin.)

Matsu sells such Taito Egret II cabinets for $1,200 USD and charges about $200-$300 extra for shipping from California to anywhere in the USA...
