What do you think about Eco Fighters?

Post by Elaphe »

It's one of my fav horizontal shmups. I'm curious about the fact that it seems not to be very popular. I talked about it with a friend who is a hardcore shmup player and he told me it's not a game he's very fond of. What I like about it most is the directional fire. I set two side buttons for controlling the direction and a button in the middle for autofire. It feels very very natural to me. Also, you can use the extreme of that kind of rotary lever to kill your enemies by direct contact and even charge a special powerful shot. The only problem is that there's only one kind of shot that I like, the default one, whilest the rest feel wrong and useless. So, I always choose the same kind and avoid the others.

It's not one of my favorites, but I like to play it once in a while. The graphics and gameplay are good, it's a pretty solid shoter, just not spectacular.

It's OK. I got into the port to PSP on the Capcom Classics comp. Nice for a while and I like the visuals, but there's some horrid bits (like those fishy bastards coming from behind mid-way through level three) that make it seem really cheap at times.

Nice for a while though...

It's not a super great game, but I do enjoy playing it.

It's cool to play Eco Fighters on my PSP using NJ's CPS2PSP v1.66 emulator...

I've seen it loaded up on an Ultracade cabinet once...would be better to play with the real arcade CPS2 hardware deal as it was meant to be. ^_~

One of the pricier CPS2 games iirc... I remember wanting it bad pre-emulation... but since playing the rom I can't say I'd fork over the money for it... don't know what it's worth now, but it was pushing $1000 about 10 years ago...

It's got great graphics. Super-fine CPS2 goodness presentation-wise.
Multidirectional shooting is rad in forgotten worlds, but not quite as good here (still interesting, I think).

I thought the game was pretty cool, but I remember credit feeding through just to see what would happen next, rather then because of some addictive pacing or action. I should revisit it.

It's one of the better horis IMO. The pace is just right, the weapon selection is nice & the bosses are well designed.

It's fun. It feels like an old Capcom shooter, and that's a good thing.

Seriously. I just played through this last night w/ a friend and have to wonder why not many people like this (after searching the forums I think I spotted like 7).

Sure, it's no Progear, but anyone who likes Varth better not give this game too much crap, because they are pretty much the same type of game. And by that I mean great oldschool Capcom graphics (like Megaman style) and ok gameplay.

I am curious about how difficult it would be to work out a controller scheme using a Forgotten Worlds layout...

I like it, though it's much better when you use a stick to directly control the pod. Because of this I prefer the PS2 rev. to the original.
