I guess a patch would appear on the Japanese Marketplace, next to RFA's theme and gamerpics.

No, the patches are forced downloads. As soon as you load the game - as long as you're connected to Live - you get a dashboard message at the right of the screen, informing you that an update is available. You simply select 'download now' (or 'update now', whichever of the two it is). The update downloads and installs, the game reloads. Very easy - it's effectively an automatic process.

Makes no difference which region version of the console you've got.

but how does this figure in with the user profile?

i don't remember exactly how the interface worked with the american systems, so i can't remember if it looked for a bona fide xbox live account before initiating the patch download.

Um, RFA is region locked.

Anyway, this game just froze on me again. Last level of boss rush mode in RFJ, too.

I know. That makes absolutely no difference to how patches are applied, though. They never appear on the Marketplace - downloads featuring additional content, yes, downloads featuring bug fixes, no.

Patch gets uploaded onto Live. You load the game, the 360 communicates with Live and discovers that there's an update. You either agree to apply the update or the 360 will refuse to allow you to play the game while logged into your Live account.

It does, but as long as you've got a Live account, the patch will download and apply itself. I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, sorry, but it doesn't matter if you've got a US or Euro Live account loaded on a JPN console - as long as it's a legit account of any kind, the patch download will kick in and work properly. Again, the Marketplace doesn't feature into the process at all.

you know i can actually play it fine with the d pad.....
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

There needs to be a PS2 -> 360 adapter. I feel weird playing this with the analogue stick, although it still works.

There's an adaptor that allows a KB/Mouse through a 360 pad. The converter also has a PS2 port.

Ok, seriously, is this thing any good? Its $20 at my local Gamestop and I've been giving serious consideration to buying it.

But the "Mad Catz" tells me to stay far far away.

The XFPS? You can't configure the buttons on it though.

Also it costs £45. And you need a wired official 360 controller plugged into it for it to work. And the latest model of wired 360 controller doesn't work with it.

It's a pain in the butt, in other words. While the prospect of playing Soulcalibur IV with a 360 controller when I've got an HRAP in my wardrobe irritates me, it does so less than the prospect of spending £65 on a converter/pad combo or finding room in the wardrobe for another monolithic arcade stick.

The layout looks terrible - I can't see how you could possibly hope to use the ABXY buttons properly without accidentally hitting that analogue stick all the time.

Ugh, they really should patch this. I fired this up for the first time this week and encountered the sound glitch again. On the plus side, I 1cc'd Raiden Fighters 2, which I've never done before. On the bad side, the final boss didn't appear, and the game stopped after I destroyed that hexagon thing. Bomb noises, boss noises, ships being destroyed when there's none there, and other sound effects which are totally out of place is just.. unsettling. I had to block it out while I played.

What causes medals in Raiden Fighters 2 to become huge, anyway? I'd like to get that "Score over 100,000,000" achievement.

You have to build up all three medal types to their highest value.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Each of these medal types will come out depending on your number of slaves:

No slaves = Tens 10-90
1 slave = Hundreds 100-900
2 slaves = Thousands 1000-9000

Get all three types up to their 9 multiple and then the big medals appear. Leave nine big ones strewn about the screen at one time and they explode- and you can work on getting these raised from 10000, to 20000... all the way up to 100000. Missing one of these will reset the medal value to 10000. Large medals will keep showing up through the rest of the game.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Thanks for that, but I just saw a superplay which hit 93 million. In other words, I am never getting the 100,000,000 achievement.

Wait, only 4 people on the leaderboards have a score over 100 mill. So only 4 people in the entire world have this achievement.

So who did actually play this one ? I gave it a try yesterday and played all three RF games for a few minutes. While I think the presentation, the ideas, the options are pretty good, I don't really think the graphical conversation was done as good as possible.

Graphics on MAME (no matter if filtered or not and scaled or not) are still much crisper. What I don't get is the following: when set to 480x640 on 720p it says 1:1 which would mean 1 original pixel gets mapped onto 4 new pixels, but somehow the postprocessing (e.g. earest neighbour) makes it look mediocre nevertheless. You can especially notice this on any diagonal lines. They look badly scaled and have moving artefacts as soon as the sprites move.

It's a bit disappointing, especially when looking forward to the Cave ports on the 360.

WR scores for RF2 are ranging from 110 - 125 million depending on what ship you use.

The fact that even AIVA-DGN (AKA Raiden Fighters 2) hasn't broken 100 mil would dampen my hopes of that achievement though

I wasn't to thrilled with the visuals either, so I went ahead and picked up RF1 PCB this week. I had 2 all ready but waited on the others to see this port.

Looks fine to me, VGA out --> 29" multisync monitor. Not noticed any "moving artefacts". If the Cave ports look this good I'll be well pleased.
Don't bomb. DON'T BOMB.
Damn! Should have bombed.
