Then again, the Metal Slug collection left in the blood, IIRC, so who knows? I don't think there's much concrete info out there on this.iatneH wrote:I am assuming that the US version will be censored, unless anyone can confirm otherwise.

Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 2 is censored. In the first game (RBFF), the blood is green 'slime'. In the second (RBFFS), the blood is solid white 'milk'. So either SNK told the people doing the ports to leave it censored for the US market (like it probably was with the original game's release), or SNK didn't bother to check and make sure things were uncensored before the finished product was ready for burning. It's a bit odd, seeing as the breasts on Mai and Blue Mary still bounce and jiggle, but for whatever reason, the blood is no longer blood.Ganelon wrote:SNK USA doesn't censor anything anymore. Now, whether they'll make the extra effort to include English with blood is another question.
I did a double take when I saw the US release date for this. For some reason I thought 28th April was still a way off, then I realised it's this Monday!
I haven't played any of the recent compilations of old SNK games, so can anyone confirm how well the PS2 versions of these have been holding up in terms of frame rate, dropped animation frames, etc?

Metal Slug Anthology- All seven games, no apparent frame loss, some occasional slow down (pretty rare), load times of about 1-3 seconds between segments of levels (most noticeable in MS3), no apparent censorship. There could be some potential input lag of about 1/4 - 1/3 second, but not everyone's experienced this though (I did, and it's worst on the first game, and lesser on the rest... but you get used to it pretty quick). Original arcade music only.
World Heroes Anthology- All four games, no apparent slow down, very fast loading, no apparent frame loss, no apparent censorship, no apparent input lag, original arcade and arranged music.
Art of Fighting Anthology- All three games, no apparent slow down, quick load times, no apparent frame loss, no apparent censorship, no apparent input lag, original arcade and arranged music.
Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 1- First four games, no apparent slow down, quick load times, no apparent frame loss, no apparent censorship, no apparent input lag, original arcade and arranged music.
Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 2- Next three games, no apparent slow down, quick load times, no apparent frame loss, blood color is censored, no apparent input lag, original arcade and arranged music.

The SS collection is in the works. We've seen the artwork for it (at least, a draft of the artwork.) I'm as impatient as you, but I think SNK is trying to milk this as much as possible. I mean, after we have the SS games, what's left? Might as well force everyone to buy a compilation while they're waiting.

Eugenics: you know it's right!
I honestly don't know. I have a regular TV, and nothing's mentioned on the back of the boxes. In the video settings for the games, you can tinker with the screen position, and change it from "Type A" to "Type B" (which makes the image bigger). Outside of that, I have no clue.D wrote:@ The Coop,
Thanks for that info. Would you by any chance know if any of those mentioned games have a 480p option?
With the exception of Metal Slug Anthology, these are pretty bare-bones compilations (no art galleries, ultra-basic menus, etc.). As such, I wouldn't count on a lot of different video modes. 480p support could be there (automatic switch over perhaps?), but unless "Type B" is that setting, I couldn't find it.
Fenrir- Samurai Shodown Anthology is coming towards the end of this year, with King of Fighters: The Orochi Saga coming as well. I believe both are currently listed as Q4 2008.
I just want SS6 in English. I have the Japanese release of Tenka, but they need to improve the loading times, not to mention the fact that the movelists on the net kind of suck and the ingame movelist is all in Japanese.

We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.

I'm not sure if the last issue you mention would even have an opportunity to be addressed on this comp, since presumably all of the games on it are the "arcade versions"...probably no practice mode, gallery, movelists, or anything else, just the games themselves. At least, that's the impression I had of the collection...it290 wrote:I just want SS6 in English. All the other fighting compilations from SNK have a move list for the character you're using when you pause the game, so the SS one will likely have it as well.BulletMagnet wrote:I'm not sure if the last issue you mention would even have an opportunity to be addressed on this comp, since presumably all of the games on it are the "arcade versions"...probably no practice mode, gallery, movelists, or anything else, just the games themselves. OK, I downloaded what I presume is an early leak of the US PSP game. So far I only played the first stage of Metal Slug and Shock Troopers, but violence seems to be intact in those two games. There does not seem to be much in the way of system settings, especially with Shock Troopers as I am used to playing it on MVS difficulty on a Japanese AES system with 3 lives and fewer hit points per life. Plus the US assignment of O and X confuses the Hell out of me, I always press the wrong button.
I will check more of the games tomorrow but I may just buy the Japanese version when it is released.

I was hoping for the teddy bear setting myself.JoshF wrote:No arcade difficulty?
Looks like they've accidentally (or purposefully) listed the PS2 version at the PSP version's price. Play-Asia have the PS2 version for $19.90, and considering that they usually mark up US games by $5-10 over RRP, NCSX's price looks way off what it should be.The Coop wrote:Gee, they didn't mark the price up or anything, did they?PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Here's the USA PS2 region of SNK Arcade Classics Vol.1 from NCSX...

According to the IGN review, the PS2 version of SNK Classics v. 1 has some slowdown and loading issues. It said that the slowdown is only in the PS2 versions and not the others. I think I'll skip the PS2 version of this and go for FFBA2 instead.

It was in the fighting games, most of which will be (or already are) available in other compilations (AoFA, FFBAv1, WHA, SSA, KoF:tOS, MSA, etc.).BrianC wrote:According to the IGN review, the PS2 version of SNK Classics v. 1 has some slowdown and loading issues. I still want this. KoF 94', Last Resort, Magician Lord and Shock Troopers (among others) are too good to pass up. If I wanna play Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting or World Heroes, I'll pop in the proper anthology and go to town there.

Yep. LR for $15 is a good price (given the alternative). Tack on Magician Lord and KoF '94 alone, and it's a better deal. Add in Samurai Shodown, Shock Troopers and a number of the other games, and it's definitely worth getting.J-Manic wrote:I'm thinking about picking this up just for Last Resort. Is it worth it?

Yeah, they're the main selling points for me, as well. I really wish we were getting more then 1 shmup in this collection. And as long as it takes for SNK-P to release games, you'd think they were working on Final Fantasy XIII.Shatterhand wrote:Last Resort and Shock Troopers are the selling points of this compilation. Still Shock Troopers 2 would had been much better

Besides which, there are too many games on this compilation that already have compilations of their own, or are downloadable through the VC. I will get this compilation, but I hope SNK-P does a lot better next time around.
