Screen won't stop rolling

Post by dpful »

I'm using an arcadeVGA card with my medium res monitor (as per my last post), but the screen won't stop rolling. Vertical hold just slows it down or stops it halfway between rolls. Any one have any ideas? (again, the monitor works great with my gradius IV PCB)

I imagine the ArcadeVGA card outputs Hor and Vert sync seperatly. So are you hooking this up to connectors on your monitor with combined sync or seperated sync?

I got it to stop (I was using a jpac). How, you ask? With magic and love.

I spent hours the other day trying different syncs, different knobs, different everything and nothing worked. Today it worked fine. ???

My only guess is that the sync wire was 'barely' connected at some point and just letting just enough voltage through to make a difference, but hold the screen still. I did put some tension arbitralily on a single connector before I turned it on today.

I'm tempted to put another post for this off topic, but I've already posted twice about this same project. so I hope this gets checked-

QUESTION:
Is there a way to reorient windows to a vertical monitor with this card? I can't find an option to do it. I can't imagine there's not, though, since anyone using a vert monitor for MAME would want the mame menu vertical also.

Did you check in Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced? Usually that's where the setting would be if there was one.

It's not there. I think it's in the ATI control panel that you have to install from the ultimarc disk. Unfortunately, the control panel won't load up in anything less than VGA and I'm using a med res monitor so it won't load up.

I'm guessing that I'm screwed, but I'll write ultimarc and see what's up.
I thought I'd photoshop all the mame snaps sideways and just navigate by picture.

I tried another tool that looked similar. It jacked up the sync and it was almost impossible to set it back (with the screen rolling like crazy).

I think I'll just stick with the pics for now. Man, medium resolution monitors suck.
