I'm not really going for a remake of RSG as you can tell, this is more of a spinoff / sequal / prequal, I havn't really decided on any story line at all yet.
Considering your maturity in the response to all the criticism, I think you'll do good with the game. :)

DS is a pretty powerful system, let's see what you can do with it.

Hello, I dropped a cautious note on the youtube vid a while back. Thanks for the clarifications - but I tend to agree with shoe-san and Rob about the game just for the reused graphics. You really should find somebody with some graphics skills and co-opt them to help make the game...

The engine is far from complete so I still don't know if this will be how it stays. My main objective is to make an engine that is similar to Radiant Silvergun because I just love that game and there nothing else like it on the DS. Considering the dual screens it makes it perfect for this type of vetical scrolling game in my opinion. If you didn't like the game in it's previous forms then yeah you probably won't like this either but perhaps the engine can be reused to make something you DO like, that's discussion for later on really though.

The game is not released and I will be perfectly willing to change the graphics should someone decide to contact me about it but in the world of DS homebrew, it's not likely that a decent artist will show up. The engine is probably what will be released in the end and it will be packaged with some graphics. What those graphics are all depends what happens as time goes on. I mean my plans are no secret now so in 6 months (roughly estimated release date??) I should have an idea of what everyone thinks about it.

I am also doing this for free so if anyone wants to go and moan to Treasure about me wanting to release a free version of Radiant Silvergun for the DS then off you go and hopefully I'll make some money out of it instead, I could do with it you know.

I honestly don't see the point of stealing another group of peoples work and sticking them on the top of some bland circa- 1991 level design so yes, change the graphics.

I'd love a Judgement Silversword inspired homebrew for the DS.

Sorry, just thinking aloud.

Hm. I'd say it's pretty limited and its limits start to show, expecially in comparison with the sleeky juicy PSP. DS has a couple of things on its side: being the resolution lower, sound chips crappier and power limited, you don't need an Oscar winning team to develop a game. Furthermore, it's more prone to homebrew even though the PSP's homebrewing potentials are really through the rooof (too bad for the freaking constant firmware updates that keep messing stuff over and over).

I don't think he'll go all that far with the DS, expecially if he intends to create interesting enemy patterns, intricate levels, wide and frequent particle shooting ranges and a fully exploitable sword while keeping a constant (and decent) framerate.

We'll see, we'll see. Everything shmup is a good thing. Yes, Last Hope too. And shitty chaos fie[snip!]
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

DS doesn't have an optical drive. Too bad companies pad out startup with shitty logos, though.

Ok, I'm a little slow, here. I thought this was going to be an actual Treasure project. If it's homebrew and you have fun making it, then go for it :D

Just don't expect a huge following. Like others have said, putting RSG on anything is going to get half of the universe's artillery aimed at you until you actually deliver something of consequence.

Now that I think of it, it will make sense to put a "homebrew" tag on the topic name to avoid misunderstanding.
