Axelay

Post by EIHoppe »

Please post scores for Axelay in the new high score thread!

Hrm. No one's made any highscore lists on the new forums for what is generally considered at the very least one of the better SNES shooters? This must be fixed. :P

Post scores in this format so someone lazy such as myself can just copy and paste them in the appropriate position, or at the very least be able to copy 2/3rds of it.

I'll add 6th and further positions as they get filled.

Name - Score - Stage - Difficulty

I'll be making boards for Normal and Hard, and if there's demand (I have my doubts), I'll make an easy board as well.

NORMAL
1st: Carmen - 1761790 - 3-4
2nd: SFKhoa - 1275470 - 2-5
3rd: Herr Schatten - 1244830 - 2-6
4th: EIHoppe - 0125810 - 1-3
5th: Konami - 0057300 - 1-1

HARD
1st: EIHoppe - 0072520 - 1-2
2nd: Konami - 0057300 - 1-1
3rd: Nobody - 0000000 - 1-1
4th: Nobody - 0000000 - 1-1
5th: Nobody - 0000000 - 1-1

Both my normal and hard runs were shit, but it gets the ball rolling.

And yes...I was bored enough to include the default Konami score. It gives incentive to do better than that, besides. :P (I'll bump it off once more scores are added.)

Good luck to everyone. :)

SFKhoa - 1275470 - 2-5
NORMAL MODE

Comments: the literally ALMOST-FREQUENT extends makes this run easy as hell.

I haven't played this game in so long (which is kind of a shame, since its my favourite SNES shootie, heck, one of my favcurite SNES games). But here's my score (yes, I used to save all my scores, even from so many years ago).

This was on Normal.

957 510.

I know I beat the game on a 1cc run, so this was undoubtable that score. However, I can't tell you how far I got on the second loop (like I said, its been years since I played it).

IIRC, in this game each "loop" is just the next difficulty, right (as in, if you beat "easy" then you go through the game on "normal," and from there to "hard," etc.)? I'll hafta see if I still have my scores, but this is one of the few shmups I have 1CC-ed on defaults, so if I can I'll hafta toss 'em on...

Yea, I think that is how it works. But I don't know what happens if you beat Hard.

I'll let you know once the game comes in the mail :P

It goes to a "Very Hard" mode. I did it once back in the day without cheating. The Very Hard mode is somewhat analagous to the 2nd loop of Gradius V. Anything that shoots a spread of bullets shoots a super-spread of bullets. Enemies shoot alot more, etc... It's pretty damned hard.

I used a game genie to see what happens if you finish "Very Hard". It tells you "See you in Axelay 2".... liars.

I got this only yesterday and one-credited it on my third try. Here's my score.

Herr Schatten - 1244830 - 2-6
NORMAL MODE

Seconded. I was amazed how easy the game was. This is not only due to the frequent extends though. I do think that the vertical stages are very easy compared to the horizontal ones. I usually only die in the vertical stages because of the confusing perspective (A flat texture that's supposed to represent a 3D environment? Ack!), not because the stages are actually challenging.

Get to 3-1 and then proceed through that loop and tell me how easy it is ;)

loop 3 would be Hard ONLY if they didn't give you 1ups oh so often.

Lots and lots and lots of bullets on 3-4.

Anything that used to shoot a radial spread of bullets shoots a very tightly packed radial spread now. I love the 3-2 boss at this difficulty.

Ohh am I enjoying this game :D I just made this run today:

Normal, 1 292 520, 2-6

Some stupid deaths kept me from getting to loop 3... I can't wait to see how crazy it gets.

Hey, I'm wondering, has anyone tried hacking the game (or read of anyone who has) to access any weapon at any stage? I'm curious to see if the developers programmed the Wind Laser for the vertical stages (though I doubt it).

I just got to loop three... and  Whoo boy, was it insane! Especially stage four, where I actually had to play in a survival sort of mentality (playing for survival... in Axelay :o !) Even with credits, I wasn't able to get past that crazy part in the last stage... you know, right after the mini-boss where those V-shaped things try to smash you to death! Wow. Fun though :P . Bloody shame that you can't access it from the beginning though!! :x

On 1cc, I was able to get as far as the part just before the split in the 4st.

Well done. I should go dig out my SNES, give it a few hits for good luck (and to get it working in the first place, poor old thing) and give Axelay another go. =)

I've never completed the 3rd loop without cheating. I don't think I ever 1cc'd past level 3-4 either. The last part of the 3-6 where the corridor gets really small and a bunch of enemies force their way through is crazy. Too hard for me.

And the shear number of return bullets in 3-4 gets overwhelming as well.

I know which part you mean. I can't even find it hard to do this part consistently well on Normal, and I can't get past it on Hard without least getting hit once. Its very tough, how do you manage it?

I don't remember. It's been 10 years since I've even seen 2-6.

I decided to try Axelay again about a month ago and completed loop 1 with no problem, then my controls stopped responding and I died over and over and over and over in 2-1 because I crashed into everything. Haven't tried again since them because I was pissed at it.

I don't think i've gotten through there without dying on hard. I haven't even gotten TO there in loop 3 without cheating.

I don't think anybody updates this scoreboard anymore, but I finally 1CCed the game on Normal (just barely) and want to post a score:

Normal:
MR_Soren | 646,730 | 2-1
