i was always interested in an x68K.. what are they like to use from a pure gaming perspective?
are we talking ms-DOS like bootup but in japanese or do the games just boot up by themselves when you insert them?
there is another thread with tons of homebrew games (that look ace!) how would you go about playing them on the computer?
the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..
There is a guy selling a 68K machine on Neo-geo for like $400. I bit too expensive for me to satisfy my curiosity. The 68K emulators seem to do a good enough job, although no native RGB output.
PS. yeah you can pretty much find the software out there already, and these disks in the auction just look like copies anyway.
I would like to see a list of games and their resolutions. Apparently the 68000 has some excellent ports, yet, forces them into not only 480i, but 480p sometimes (even though it's capable of 15/22/31khz). Same w/ the Marty.

Looking at that Cho Ren Sha screen the aspect ratio looks different than in the PC-version, where it looks closer to square. Could it be that my widescreen monitor applies some stretching to the game?

Yes, its exactly square. With the real thing (and certain emulator) you can play it hori or vert.

I could go through most of them outside of the porn games as I've actually tried them on real machines or have the software at my place. The Capcom stuff will boot into 15kHz normally. Most of the later Micomsoft ports have an option to boot in 15 as well. Zoom titles have selectable res from the options screen. Unfortunately many titles like Dracula are stuck in 31 kHz unless you know some tricks. There's a hardware config file to force 15kHz. You could also use an RGB downscanner which is what I use for the PC-98, X68000 and Towns. Works great for many of these low res games.

some of which I know the resolution for (from the manual or game configuration screen). If you need any more information I might be able to look it up for you.
Just saw your post, very nice info sir. First time I've seen anyone document the HDD install in English! I've done it with a CF mod so no more HDD now (it was dead anyway...).
the second, R+R was a bitch to seek i remember. (so still we only got a demo...)
some games boot direct, some others need tricks or do some batchs. else it's 95% like msdos !
?! do you have the config files to force 15k??? never heard yet about it (just found some games with hacks to run on different modes). discussions about x68000 are so rare . (we made about 8-10 pages in french forum about tricks and batchs/configs, we progressed a lot at that time but didnt had more time since :/ )

Yes, I have the file but it doesn't work well in all cases. The best way is to still downscan the RGB signal.
Magic Knight wrote:Why thank you! I think it should work for most people with a SCSI hard disk, I've bought an optical drive and CD-ROM drives recently, I haven't got the software to work them yet though. How did you get the CF mod to work? That sounds like something I might try. Can you copy files easily from Windows to the X68000 that way? I have all of the relevant software for extracting the files etc., just need a way to get them across.
My supplier for X68000 stuff here in Japan just sold everything off, so he wasn't able to help me out with it.
I bought a CF SCSI conversion kit off a guy...actually haven't tried copying files from Windows yet. Will try that during the extended weekend.
Magic Knight wrote:Yes, it's an MO drive, though I need the SUSE driver for it. I haven't managed to get it recognised by the X68000 yet, so I might be better off trying for an older model, preferably the original Sharp drive. It's the same deal with the CD-ROM drive, I haven't got the drivers for it.
The guy who sold me everything said that he used two MO drives to copy stuff back and forth from Windows, I believe it should be straightforward, from what I've read on the Internet and what he told me.
I must check out the CF idea though, not much else to be doing during Golden Week. My hard drive is dying too.
Ah, I have an external MO and HDD daisy chained through a SCSI card in one of the expansion slots. I got it this way so not sure how the original owner set it all up as it's quite modded out, even has a 68030 with extra memory.
As far as I can tell it's just to show it off. Running the page through translation software is the best I can do, however. Hoo-boy...I would give my left...well...left anything to pick up a copy in that condition and complete the *ahem* unholy trilogy.
You broke down and picked up the MSX2 game, did you? How much did you pay for it?
Edit:
I took a moment to look through a few home computer games (lol two copies of Dynamite Duke) for Undead Line, and I found my MSX2 copy has some slight tears along the top of its insert. More than made up for having the T&E Soft catalog, sticker, and other cruft though.
Undead Line for the X68000...found my copy, and guess what:
For it to be truly complete, you also need the clear seal sticker (with T&E soft logo, mine was carefully cut by the previous owner instead of removed), and a baggie for the manual + blue and red cards.
I should get a X68k emulator just to play Undeadline, it's the best version of the game, isn't? From what I understand, it's the MSX level design with Mega-Drive quality graphics and sound, and no slowdowns.
