us saturn: bought a white jp some time ago, and have no designs on any american games. the only thing i do on it is shmup, or maybe some mahjong in the future.Nei First wrote:captain ahar Edit: Just clicked your sig, that's alot your selling there man. Curious why do you wanna get rid of all those systems?

us psone: have a ps2, and the only game i have that bugs out on it is Tomba. and as long as the game is not started on the PS2 (i can load a file with no problems), i have no other use for the psone.
ngpc: this will be a hard sell for me. i love the little guy. i vividly remember everyone at school walking around playing their gameboys, and I had blazing fast Samurai Shodown and Metal Slug to keep me company, the suckers. i am afraid however that it doesn't get as much love as it deserves lately, so i decided to try and find a loving home... also, i have a trip to WA coming up and am hurting for cash. the youth hostel is charging a kidney.
steel batallion: played twice and i loved it. however, every time i play i have to redecorate my room.
thank you dear Nei First, for this awesome advertising opportunity.
I have no sig whatsoever.

Mahjong is one of my favoriate games... I play the 4P boardgame frequently and there are many good titles for the Saturn. Many are in the strip-mahjong variety... but some are actually good games! Super Real Mahjong series is excellent - P7 is the best (it is not a red-titled game as it came out at the end of the Saturn's life when they banned all red-18 games... it features amazing animation and some of the best 2D graphics on the system... it runs on a stock Saturn but will also use the 1MB and 4MB modes of the RAM carts for more animation and virtually no load times).captain ahar wrote:us saturn: bought a white jp some time ago, and have no designs on any american games. the only thing i do on it is shmup, or maybe some mahjong in the future.
Kiwame-S for the Saturn is another great Mahjong game... one of the few that will do real 4P mahjong against solid opponents. This is a much more serious representation of Mahjong. There are tons of options on this... all in Japanese but most of the important stuff can be figured out...

I just found it to be another shallow budget fetish fighter and I never really found myself having much fun while playing it *shrug* Glad I didn't spend too much on it (i think it was like 1000yen or something at the time)Nei First wrote:roushimsx When I first got Asuka120% for cheap, I had my doubts (another all girl fighting game). Actually it turned out to be one of my favourites. I love the combo system the most, you can really volley some sick combos in that game. What did you hate about it?
Those of us with PCs knew not to bother with the inferior Saturn portAndi wrote:What? Nobody here has Crusader: No Remorse? You guys must be daft.

No Remorse and No Regret were fucking brilliant on PC, and it's a shame that No Mercy was cancelled

Only the US PS version got tweaked, the Japanese PS version is the same difficulty level as the Saturn version (and may be cheaper to pick up). The game is not an easy title; it's a nice middle ground between Gunstar Heroes and Dynamite HeaddyBulletMagnet wrote:I've only played the PS1 version of Silhouette, which has had the challenge nastily tweaked...unless you're willing to spend boss-caliber time fighting regular enemies, that version might be frustrating (though you can pick it up a lot cheaper than the Saturn version). Supposedly the Sat. port is easier, but some think so to the point of it being no challenge at all...I haven't compared them firsthand, so I can't say.Nei First wrote:I've always wanted to try Keio Yuugekitai and Silhouette Mirage, how are they?

Guardian Heroes = Rocks something fierceDiabollokus wrote:HELP: I thinking about getting these games should I?
Guardian Heroes
Exhumed
enemy Zero
Deep Fear
Exhumed/Powerslave = Not a bad title, but it's no Duke Nukem 3D. Far better than the playstation version, engine-wise.
Enemy Zero = Meh
Deep Fear = It's ok. It's no Biohazard 2/3/Code Veronica, but it sure beats Alone in the Dark 2 and 3. Check out the Mookie Dies video for a nice spoiler and a good sneak peek at some of the worst CG you'll ever see in a game created after 1995.
Assault Suit Leynos 2-Easier than Target Earth, but still pretty frustrating, what with the limited ammo and all. Nothing great, I just hate limited ammo.
Asuka 120% Burning Fest Limited-Fun 2D fighter, I really like clashing and all. It's not conventional but I enjoy it, manhands women and all.
Bishojo Variety Game Rapyulus Panic-Really cheap game full of minigames that are casino-esque, I guess.
Burning Rangers-Really awesome game, if you buy it make sure you buy it in English. Relies on voice guidance.
Crows - The Battle Action-Levels are way too short, but the game's pretty. I like the combo system.
Daytona USA-s'OK, good port of the arcade original.
Decathlete-Fun button masher.
Digital Pinball: Necronomicon-Really corny pinball game with FMV, but still good pinball game.
DJ wars-Terrible. Don't know what to do honestly.
Dungeons & Dragons Collection-Loading times are far too frequent, Shadow of Mystara shits all over Tower of Doom.
Dynamite Deka-Great port of the arcade original, love me some good beat em ups.
Fatal Fury 3-I love FF3, I just dislike this port. This is the reason why SNK decided to create the 1MB RAM cart.
Fighting Vipers-Mindless button masher but entertaining. If anything I play it to knock the womens clothes off.
Galaxy Fight-Terribly boring and mediocre, at least it would tell Sunsoft how to not make a fighter and thus we get Waku Waku 7.
Grid Runner-Great music, boring game of tag.
Groove On Fight-Has great style to it, but damn, it's so fugly and just not that fun.
Hokuto no Ken-Hey, I like Fist of the North Star, that's all that matters. But yeah...bad game.
King of Fighters '95-Great port! Hard as hell tho.
King of Fighters '96-another great port and my favorite KOF next to 03...dear mercy the music is so damn good.
King of Fighters '97-Great port, but lacking that something 96 had. Like good music.
Konami Antiques: MSX Collection-Good for MSX1 owners only pretty much. few games entertain me, but Artic Adventure games and some others are good.
Madden NFL '98 (BIG gave it to me for free
)
Marvel Super Heroes-Great port w/out the RAM..loves it.
Metal Slug-Love the game, f'n hate the perpetual slowdown.
NiGHTS into Dreams-overrated to the max.
Ninku-2D fighter based on the anime..how are those sprites down? just ripped cels? look like GGX quality.
P.T.O. II: Pacific Theatre of Operations-yet another complex Koei game with loads of information. skip history class and just play this.
Panzer Dragoon II Zwei-import version, got it for like 4 bucks mint. pretty good, need to play more.
Pocket Fighter-I love it. loves it yes.
Real Bout Fatal Fury Best Collection-LOVIN IT, YES YES.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV-Japanese version i.e. damn near useless to me. another complex Koei strat.
Samurai Shodown IV: Amasuka's Revenge-big Sam Sho fan here, IV's another great installment.
Samurai Shodown RPG-AKA Bushidorhetsuden. I love SS but I hate RPGs where I can't read the Japanese text
Too bad, the battle system's akin to Chrono Trigger.
Street Fighter Collection-SFZ2' and GMC...awesome.
Terra Phantastica-beauty of an RPG but I can't read Japanese. useless to me.
Vampire Hunter-good.
Vampire Savior: The Lord of the Vampire-great, love the last stage with God as a fetus in the background.
Virtua Fighter 2-meh.
Waku Waku 7-really colorful and fun.
Worldwide Soccer 97 (another freebie from BIG
)
X-Men vs. Street Fighter-great Capcom craziness.
X-Men: Children of the Atom-I love it, awesome stuff.
alpha5099: Bushidorhetsuden literally looks like a 16-bit game; FFVI looks better than it. Only the battle backgrounds look good, but at least the sprites from SS3 are there in battle. It's interesting and I'd like to get a translation of the dialogue so I know what's happening. Worst thing about it is waiting 20, yes, 20 seconds before each battle (loading times..ugh).
Nei First: I got my Saturn back in January from BIG. Since then I've scoured the NG and old shmups forum buying games from people; I've also looked at every possible option to buy the same game, so I get some really kickass deals (like mint PD2Z for $4 and mint US Burning Rangers for $10.48...thank you Vintage at NG!). I also went to wolfgames.com before Matt sold most of his Saturn games there.
And for the guy wondering if Super Dimensional Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? is a shmup, yes it is. Not a very good one, however.

Same, I kind of prefer the PSX port nowadays. Graphicz00rz suck but less overall loadtimes, slowdown-freeMetal Slug-Love the game, f'n hate the perpetual slowdown.
I was unimpressed also, way too much in the way of loadtimes killed any enjoyment I might have had with it.Groove On Fight-Has great style to it, but damn, it's so fugly and just not that fun.
LoneSage: Damn I need to take some tips from you, on where to find good bargains man. I haven't done too badly though, I try to avoid paying ridiculous prices as much as possible.
Thanx for posting your views of all those games LoneSage, and thanx to everyone else, much appreciated. Does anyone knows a link to some good pics of Silhouette Mirage?
It sounds good but have little idea what it looks like.
I also agree I found Asuka to be very fun, though I do admit it's not your usual serious fighter. I haven't seen any other 2D fighter that's pulled off combos and clashes, as successful as this game has.
I too love KOF '96, my third best King of Fighters. I agree, it by far has the best music in the series, which makes KOF 98 that much more special to me, since most of it's music is taken from 96.
The story of the orochi saga, mainly KOF 96-97, own any other stories i've seen in other fighters.
The load times in KOF 96 and 97 are annoying though, and the sound quality is a bit off, wish they used the 4mb cart instead, the port would have been perfect.
I heard how bad a port FF3 was on saturn, I also heard the port of FF Real Bout isn't that good either, although Real Bout special is meant to be perfect, and an overall better game anyway.
Is Ninku worth getting for $56/£30?
How good is the actual fighting?

Heh, good timing. I just got my Japanese Saturn back to Oklahoma today; I'll fire up the game and record some quick videos / capture some screenshots for you this evening.Nei First wrote:Does anyone knows a link to some good pics of Silhouette Mirage?

No way; is that even the average going price? I got my mint Ninku w/spine card for $12 I think, and even then I think that it was a good price as is. It's definitely not a great or even enjoyable fighter; the backgrounds are polygonal but the characters are 2D. However, here's the really odd part: I can't tell if the characters are sprites or what...thing is, I'd have to guess they were ripped straight out of the show and just put in there, because they look very similar to the sprites in the GGX series. It's really weird and I've never encountered this kind of graphical implementation in any game. I'd love to see how the developer did it.Nei First wrote: Is Ninku worth getting for $56/£30?

Anyways, no way, definitely not worth $56. If it's mint, I'd say $23 at the very most.
LoneSage: Thanx for clearing that up for me man. They're not getting no money off me now. Just know I'll probably ask you for more advice in future.
GaijinPunch: Very nice link, that's some crazy site man, thanx! I'll be looking for this game.
roushimsx: Cool I'd love that! I gotta do something soon but I'll be back to look at your stuff man.

Damn, didn't have as much time as I had hoped
Still, here's a video that's just shy of 8 minutes long, weighing in at 74.8 megs, and encoded in 640x480 of some gameplay from the first stage or so.
Encoded in XviD, because XviD is totally hot

At the end of the video when those guys at the flats, were chucking fridges and stuff at you, Crazy! That is sooo Treasure.

I liked it on PC. And everything that made it good on PC is on the Saturn version (destructible terrain, ability to use stealth, nice cover, fun firefights). Unfortunately, they try to cram a whole keyboard of commands on to a Saturn pad.Neon wrote:That got a Saturn release? I used to play it all the time on PC back when it was new. That was before I had good taste thoughAndi wrote:What? Nobody here has Crusader: No Remorse? You guys must be daft.were you being sarcastic? Is it still good?
So, uh, it's okay. I also love Space Hulk for Saturn though...so...
The game gets a bit repeditive... however, the animation is fantastic, and the sprites are big! It's all real-time action, there's no menu bars or listings of attacks to scroll through.Neon wrote:So is Princess Crown recommended? I heard it's good even though it's an RPG
The game can be quite difficult actually, since if you're health starts to run low and you want to use a health item.. you must give your character enough time to consume the food/chant the spell or it'll be knocked away by your opponent.
And here's my non-shmup Saturn collection:
Panzer Dragoon
Panzer Dragoon Zwei
Silhouette Mirage
Rockman 8
Prikura Daisakusen
Metal Slug
Daytona USA
Sega Rally Championship
Sonic R
Vampire Hunter
Vampire Savior
X-Men Vs Street Fighter
Pocket Fighter
Galaxy Fight
Waku Waku 7
Astra Super Stars
Fighting Vipers
Virtua Fighter 2
NiGHTS into Dreams
Christmas NiGHTS
Burning Rangers
Deep Fear
Suchie Pai Adventure Dokidoki Nightmare
Idol Janshi Suchie Pai Secret Album
Friends Illumination of Youth
Idol Janshi Suchie Pai 2

Clockwork Knight Lower Volume

i can deal with added slowdown and deluxe i'll get on saturn. also, i don't see myself modding the psone all by my lonesome.SheSaidDutch wrote:What about Gradius Deluxe/Gaiden?captain ahar wrote:us psone: have a ps2, and the only game i have that bugs out on it is Tomba. and as long as the game is not started on the PS2 (i can load a file with no problems), i have no other use for the psone
