Yes, it's worth a look but disregard the lame front cover design and substitute it with a cooler Shikigami No Shiro front cover jacket.

You might want to consider trying out the later released XSGames port of PS2 game of "Castle Shikigami 2" (aka Shikigami No Shiro 2) with it's Tate mode and funny Engrish storylines. It made it's USA PS2 price debut at a mere $9.99 USD from Electronics Boutique back in the day. Not a bad price if you can get it new...

Shikigami No Shiro was originally released on the Taito G-Net arcade platform as a Taito G-Card cartridge and later ported to various console platforms...

It actually plays pretty good, even after they butchered it. It's worth getting if you can find it cheap.

Holy crap.

Anyway, I recommend Shikigami 2 over Shikigami 3. Recently, I picked up 3 for the 360 and was quite disappointed in it, and I'd much rather play 2 if given the choice. It should be really cheap too.

If you like Shiki 2, you might like the first.

Though, to me, the first game feels...... unrefined.

It's still good enough, but kinda frustrating. The actual Shikigami attacks are SO unbalanced and messed up.... some of them seem so damn useless, particularly considering the power-up/down system with the coins, which isnt in the other 2 games thankfully.

But if you're a fan of 2 or 3 or both, then yeah, worth a buy.

Mobil LIght Force 2 is better than the arcade version in these areas-- filtered, smoother graphics
Extra characters (Are they unlockable on the g-net?)

Besides that, it plays just like the arcade minus the japanese speech at the bosses (I think that's all). -Replaced with english speech that I think is pretty good plus trivial (I remember complaints about that).

I think it's a cool game. I remember when it was one of the bran-new shmups I couldn't find a picture of on the net, so it still holds that kind of 'fresh' feeling with me.

It's different, but good. A little too anime for my tastes, but certainly enjoyable. I still suck at it. :(

Yes, the extra characters are unlockable on the Taito G-Card version of Shikigami No Shiro... ^_~

I've asked here the same question a few years back but got no answer. I suppose it would have to be score specific with absolute minimal bomb usage to trigger unlock the secret characters...

Note: Here is the above link translated into English from it's original Japanese language for our Taito G-Net Shikigami No Shiro players on to select the hidden character...

Castle of type God
< Releasing it hides and character information! ! >

< Appearance command >

Working condition (just the play of 1 time validity)
After the coin throwing, inputting the command below in the start picture
+ Under + + above of the upper + bottom A + A + B + A + B
While A and B are pushed the start button is pushed

Permanent use command (for operator)
After entering into static test mode, inputting the command below on 2P side
The + A + left + B + left + B + right + A + right + of the + B + bottom of the + B + bottom upper + A + above A
After that it chooses game setting, "hides and there is setting of our machine" modification

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Existence of the hiding character is ascertained!
In "the castle of type God", it hid in addition to 5 default characters and it became clear for the character to exist. Right hand edge of the character selective picture the one person ぶ is from the fact that it has been less crowded, probably is the player who expected the existence to be. That 6th character, is the person of the picture which is inside main story thing. Concrete name and profile have not become clear, but if it is the fan of the development original alpha system, the natural shape probably is to be able to suppose.

Efficiency being rather special, only one time can use uniqueness attack through the whole stage, is designed in such a way that it can do invincible high-speed movement as a special ability. But, we have become the operation method, high-speed movement lever 2 inserting, it is easy exploding accidentally is difficult point. Supplying the fault which it should feature with strength of normality attack, with uniqueness attack urgently cannot evade, you show an excessively certain power. Using remainder and the type God to which power is too strong, before collecting the coin, way there are also times when it pushes down the enemy.

It meaning that クセ is strong, it is difficult to manage, but the shot you probably can call with the point that, the character for the beginner it can advance the game to main.
-----------------------------------------

I'm still a bit confused as to how to activate the hidden character on the start screen along with operator's permanent character selection command. A bit of clarification please, would be nice...

Proper English of command inputs to unlock SnS character

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

Here are the proper command inputs to select the hidden character on the Taito G-Card version of Shikigami No Shiro:

Note: Instead of the default five characters presented on the Character Select Screen, you'll now have six to choose from...

One time use for arcade player:
At the title screen, insert coin, input the following:

Up - Down - Up - Down - A - A - B - A - B
Push A+B together with Start button

-----------------------------

Permanent hidden character saved by arcade operator (saved after power down, can be turned on/off later -- is saved directly to the Taito G-Card itself for posterity)

At the test menu, with 2P controls, input the following:

Up - A - Up - B - Down - B - Down - A - Left - B -
Left - B - Right - A - Right - A

Secret character enable/disable menu should pop up

-----------------------------

A big thanks to oxtsu for his translation of the above Japanese link... ^_~

Thanks!

That was one of the things that I found in my search for material about this game. It has a complete tutorial on that site about the game but I do not know Japanese!

Have you a taito G-net system?
I play in Xbox Shikigami no shiro Evolution.
This version of the game is good?

Yes, I do have a Taito G-Net arcade motherboard setup...very nice to be able to play Shikigami No Shiro was it was intended for the arcades. ^_~

I don't know Japanese myself and by use autotranslator of the link provided to me, it still came out a bit gibberish...but that is to be expected. ^_~

Thanks again...

Mobile Light Force 2 isnt bad but I prefer Castle Shikigami 2. PP is right about it being more refined. Some of the attacks are more fluid in CS2

Holy crap.

I could have sworn I posted before, lol. There's just so much good stuff to read here, I guess I never got around to writing anything..

The strangest part of MLF2 is when the one boss, when he dies, tells you "Your dog will suffer!"
