Strikers 1945 Plus
Strikers 1945 Plus
Turns out the local Neo Geo in my town has Strikers 1945 Plus; huge f'n score, can't wait to play it.
I was just curious as to what you all think of this one, from the demo I saw of it there, it just looked like a purtier version of the original. Any gameplay difs?

Strikers 1945 PLUS is the ONLY shmup I've played in the arcade since I was a young punk playing Centipede, Galaxian, and the rest when they first came out. I had a GREAT time, though I can't be sure it was so much the quality of the game as the quality of the experience of playing a shmup in the arcades again after so many years.
A movie theater around me has a Strikers 1945 Plus machine. At least it did the last time I was there a few years back. It's a pretty crappy theater, and now that everyone can drive, it's not much more difficult to get to much better theaters.
Still, I would like to return to that theater, just to play the game again. But everyone insists that the theater is infested with rats. *sigh* I'd brave rats for a good shmup.

It's probably in the guide.
I didn't know this secret ship before. That's the only game I still play in an arcade (There's one of this in an arcade nearby). I've managed to reach 1-8 a couple of times, but 1-6 is usually where I get smoked.
Oh yeah, and this arcade used to have the game with just 2 lives too, but it has been a few years since they switched to 3.
Oh, and the arcade has a score where the guy reached 2-6. A few years back there was a guy there who could reach 2-3. He then stopped playing (I even managed to see him playing a few times), and someday the hi-score table was resetted, and I quickly managed to feel the tabel with my name. It stayed like that for months (I even showed my girlfriend "Hey, look how good I am
"), and then ,after a few months I hadn't showed up there, when I get back there's another guy playing, who destroyed all my scores, and has this one in 2-6 stage.
I still haven't seen him playing, though.

Gamefaqs is your friend, Big (well, sometimes...)BIG wrote:How do I access this P-55 Ascender you're talking about?IlMrm wrote:I lost track of how much money I spend on this game.
Every game I hope I don't get Iron Casket's stage at 1-4.![]()
Try the secret ship, the P-55 Ascender!
Shameless plug for my guide(it's over at Gamefaqs).

At the ship select screen: Up, Down, Up, Down, Up, Up, Up, Up, Down (I don't think you have to have to "?" highlighted to do it... I've only used the plane once).

1945 Strikers Plus is one of my all time favorite shmups. I love the explosions & those cool pinky bulltes.
The Fiat Plane with those Vertical Energy-Laser Rods id the best craft imo.
The Boss music is also one of the coolest Boss Themes around, even better than the Original Strikers II by Psikyo. It really puts you up on your feet!

Xexex and I had a theory about the memory usage in Strikers 1945 Plus.
The game is rougly 650 Megs, and we summize that it is broken down thusly:
50 Megs: Actual game program
100 Megs: Nifty (but silent) CG intro
100 Megs: Music (some of the jazziest boss themes ever!)
400 Megs: Boss explosion animations

Yes, I wish I could watch this guy playing sometime, but I think he probably go there in different times as I do, as I never cathed him playing.
Mate, the demo shows 2 ships at time, each ship bombs once ,and they uses it's super shot, then the other ship does the same (Maybe not in that order). Then it shows a cut-scene of both ships, then it goes for other 2 ships in another level, they do same, up until you've seen all ships in the game.
The same thing happens in most Psikyo games. I've seen this in Sengoku Blade and Strikers 1945 II.

Really fun stuff, the explosions rock all kinds of ass. The updated graphics are minimal but still appreciated. I chuckled (wtf, who chuckles anymore) at the pink bullets. Really nice bullet patterns, to boot.
Also played some Sam Sho 2, hot damn that game rocks. Find it odd that so many people call it balanced.
