I must admit, I thought that this was an old 'april fool' when i first read this thread.
I've so far shelled out for the 'Last Hope' Dreamcast version and now the NeoGeo CD version.
So, i'm looking forward to DUX- why the strange name though? Whats the meaning behind the name?? is it some sort of Latin name- meaning leader or something??
Anyway- count me in for a copy- it looks interesting and I love 'R-type' shooters so i'm happy.

Dynamite Dux- the very first thing I had thought of. I had pictured this possibly being a Paro type shooter with a duck. So far it looks great, especially with the background made slightly darker in The Coop's first edit.Fenrir wrote:Mee tooSpecineff wrote:Also, I thought that it'd have something to do with Dynamite Dux, at first glance.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

A OST by Soniqman (mr. Dyll) again would be awesome. Chris Huelsbeck would do fine too if Rafael is unavailable.
Seriously get this man on the team again.
Oh, and let me confirm my purchase as well (for the planning of the pressing numbers and all).
Will this Neo geo project once again be ported to DC too btw?

I'm afraid you have to play the game to understand this.NAVVARR wrote:why the strange name though? Whats the meaning behind the name?? is it some sort of Latin name- meaning leader or something??
It's out of question that Soniqman and NG:DEV.TEAM will collaborate again. However, this time the music will be done by another very talented musican. While the soundtrack is not finished yet, it's already a great listening experience and will suite the game perfectly.Super Laydock wrote:Seriously get this man on the team again.
Yes that's a pretty sure thing. Will this Neo geo project once again be ported to DC too btw?

Well if it even remotely touches the production quality of Last Hope, we'll all be fine.
Any chance of some sort of lottery where the winner could design his own End boss thingy and get it somehow implemented!?
If I was able to program as well as you guys do I'd implement it for sure...fan service.
I'd love a rubber ducky boss or a homage to old school shmups there...
(never mind me if I am babbling...

Folks, remember DonPachi and how there was a mechanical bee as the true final boss? Well, this game will have... A PAIR OF MECHANICAL DUCKS FOR ITS TRUE FINAL BOSS!

I can confirm this game has nothing to do with ducks.
Btw, there's now a news blog about DUX.
No chance. Not this time at least.Super Laydock wrote:Any chance of some sort of lottery where the winner could design his own End boss thingy and get it somehow implemented!?

Thanks for the heads-up. That boss scene looks good, with a nice bullet pattern going.RHE wrote:I can confirm this game has nothing to do with ducks.

Hey! DUX looks pretty good in my opinion, and for that price, you have another buyer in the list here, for sure.
I prefer the first dark backgrounds pic too, better than the second/darker one, and as somebody said before, Chris Hüelsbeck would be perfect for the music. He is one of my favorites musicians in videogames history.
For some reason, the "plastic" looking of the game reminds me a game called Project Number 3, and I simply love it!
Keep the good work going on, guys!

This IS a visually appealing game so far. I like the textures & color combos quite a bit.
And thats a cool ship too...
What about other levels? Will it change up as drastically as say an R Type? Any screen shots of other levels available yet?
Not that its needed most of the time but how about the story line?
And a demo would be very cool...

Do you mean graphicly or gameplaywise? In both terms every stage will have it's own flavour but of course will keep the overall style. Some screens of the other stages will come soon.doodude wrote:What about other levels? Will it change up as drastically as say an R Type? Any screen shots of other levels available yet?
Naturally there will be one but nothing to make a book out of.Not that its needed most of the time but how about the story line?
Not sure about that but it has to be jacket which suits the game to the most, so while I'm currently tend to a free layout there's still hope for a japanese one. Actually, the only thing that speaks against the japanese one is, that there most likely won't be a spinecard. Those are to complicated to produce outside Japan, so it would increase the production costs which isn't conform with the curent price tag. You can't have it all.Moteuchi_Yota wrote:Any info regarding the package?

Well that calls for a DVD style packaging then.RHE wrote: Actually, the only thing that speaks against the japanese one is, that there most likely won't be a spinecard. Karous/Under Defeat/Cosmic Smash style...
Would still look officially endorsed and you can make it japanese style all you want without any extra costs (I think)...
Anyway... bookmarked the DUX blog and hope to be able to keep track of this.

The same reason as why they made Last Hope look as similar to an official release as possible... credibility and making it more attractive to collectors as well.nem wrote:Why would you want to it look officially endorsed when it's not.Super Laydock wrote:Would still look officially endorsed and you can make it japanese style all you want without any extra costs (I think)...
Well of course he is the one who decides about this stuff and he should do as he pleases. I'll get it anyway. If RHE can, he should go all out with a new, striking design.

Good idea. Please do!RHE wrote:Perhaps I will include an background brightness option so everyone can adjust this by themselves depending on the preference.
And yeah, I'm loving the futuro-plasto look. It's about time we got to blast some compulsively clean aliens instead of the usual gritty, grimy ones.

I'm in!!!! Anyone that knows me knows that I'm vert over hori anyday. In fact I'm just not a fan of horis. Unless they are what I term a Cute-Em-Up hori and this looks like it's right up my alley.
My only question is when? I've been excited over a few DC homebrew shooters in the past, only to find they ended up in development hell.

I've decided to put the game into a clear jewel case with silver borders. So the game would still fit someones collection and look good without a spinecard.Super Laydock wrote:Would still look officially endorsed and you can make it japanese style all you want without any extra costs (I think)...nem wrote:Why would you want to it look officially endorsed when it's not. It's a shame the Drill was canned if you ask me. They didn't even had proper reasons for canning it but maybe they're now biting their asses that they did that.I've been excited over a few DC homebrew shooters in the past, only to find they ended up in development hell.
Nervertheless, there's no way to hell for DUX. Even if it will be delayed, which I don't hope, it would nonetheless came out at any another date.

You're damn right it's a shame. What a promising looking game Drill was. Good to see you'd rather see a game to the end.RHE wrote:It's a shame the Drill was canned if you ask me. They didn't even had proper reasons for canning it but maybe they're now biting their asses that they did that.

I will consider that if it works with the singleplayer oriented gameplay. Just for now it's singleplayer only.lewisit wrote:is DUX going to be a single-player game only or will there be a 2-player co-op mode included?
Yes.will it have VGA-support?
When it has materialized.Moteuchi_Yota wrote:When we will see a photo the package?
I will show the cover art befor that happens though.

Though they fit their enviroment, I think the enemies presented are "basic" at best in their design.
Not necessarily a bad thing (and certainly not that I could do better!), but just something I noticed.
As for looks, the first sceens of the 2nd level seem REALLY promising to me.
Also, are you confident that it'll be ready for a JUNE release already!?
Whatever, I am much looking forward to a new hori on my beloved DC.
LH was much underrated imo so if this is near that quality I'll love it.
