About any Bomberman game, Super Smash Bros. series are good. I'm pretty sure I also played other funny stuff like that.

-Saturn-Bomberman 10 player goodness cannot be beat.
-Also Virtua Tennis 2 with 4 players is a blast. The game is really easy to get into. Everybody can get into it. And it's not like the game play of sega tennis superstars is easier, if more it is more diffcult. There are special powers and some things are hard to see at times.
-4 player Power Stone 2 perhaps, but that might get old rather quick.
-I hate soccer games, but the rest of the world seem to like them so check that out. I believe on the ps2 8-player games are possible!
-racing: 4-player F-Zero GX cannot be beat.
-top it off with a 4-player Tetris game.

probably check for 4 player games as this way lots of people are involved.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 on PS2 can be played with 8 players. But if people don't know how to play it it will be.... hilarious to say the least. I've tried this, it's lots of fun. Just don't try to play it serious unless people actually do know how to play it, and the team tries hard to play as a team.

Someday I should try an 8 players X CPU match. It's going to be really interesting, heh :)

Mashed Fully Loaded always seems to be popular... it's very easy to get into, and it's one of the best multiplayer games ever released. It's a rip-off from Micro Machines, except they took everything Micro Machines does good and did BETTER, it's better than any Micro Machines game released to this day (Even MM V3 which is by far the best on the series).AFAIK it's also very cheap if you can find it.

The Point Blank games are also usually popular, they need no skill other than aim your lightgun to the screen, and can be played with teams (At least Point Blank 3 has this option, I am not sure if others have it). There's a Japan-only release of all three games + Time Crisis 1 on a single disc.

I'll second D's recommendation of Virtua Tennis 2. The game played at high level may scare some newbies, but the game is pretty easy to get into, and very fun to play on doubles.

I could recommend lots of fun multiplayer games (I do play "offline" multiplayer a lot) But before anything, try Mashed on the PS2... I doubt you can top that, it's the most popular game when friends gather around to play.

Bomberman
Smash Bros.
Mario Power Tennis

And old-school brawlers are good for some stupid fun. Chow the delicious street-turkey.

Breaking out the Namco Tenkomori Shooting/Tenkomori Variety Shooting PCB at a party is cool. With all of it's various mini-type of shmup games, there's bound to be something for everyone -- too bad that it didn't get a wider release with it's limited PCB production run though. There are even a few mini-shmups games with cool Time Crisis, Gun Bullet/Point Blank, Galaga, and Xevious themes... ^_~

Playing a few rounds of 5-player Bomberman '94 sessions on the ol' PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 console is mighty fun too...especially the "High Speed Round" level with maxed out bomb explosion power!

IF you have a PS1 and can get a couple of PS1 multi-taps, you should check Micro Machines V3... it can be played with 8 players with just 4 controllers (2 players play with the same controller.. it sounds weird but it works, and more games have this option), if you have 2 multi-taps it can be played with 8 controllers.

Mashed: Fully Loaded is a better game, but Micro Machines V3 is still great and it supports 8 players, Mashed only supports 4.

I took my Saturn with me to a house warming party a friend was having. Naturally, Saturn Bomberman, two multitaps and ten controllers were included. Surprisingly though, the game wasn't the big hit I thought it would be. Too hard, they said. So out with Bomberman and in with Duke Nukem and Death Tank Zwei. Success! Everybody enjoyed it.

In hindsight, it makes no sense.

-Wario Ware Smooth Moves (Wii) It gets extra super bonus points for only requiring you to have one Wii-Mote for as many as a dozen people to play.

-Mario Strikers Charged (Wii) is great fun in multiplayer but it hinges on everybody having approximately the same skill level for maximum fun (Although I guess the same could be said of any multiplayer game).

-Pac-Man Vs. (Gamecube) is awesome, but it requires a GC-GBA link cable for the player controlling Pac-Man.

SingStar Pong ftw.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Dreamcast has a few games like Chu Chu Rocket, Virtua Tennis 2 and Power Stone 2.

Like Tempest said Pac Man VS is awesome to the max.

Play it on MKDS with 8 people.

Most of the stuff I could say was already said, especially F-ZERO GX. Don't forget X too.

Also, pretty much any Tekkens are excellent as party games. Especially 3.

Do you notice something.... most of the games here are for Nintendo systems??

odd that? -actually its not, i firmly believe that Nintendo make the best multiplayer games out.

Party gaming wise- Donkey Konga is a laugh -especially with more than one set of Bongos.

-Party gaming with people that can handle a control pad wise- i'd recommend 'Star Fox assault' multiplayer -its a well balanced fun multiplayer blast. -Really great jumping in and out of tanks, jets and using all the weapons to take down your opponents.

Not odd at all, since Nintendo has had a 2-generation lead over other existing companies' platforms in out-of-the-box 4-player support...

Anyway, I still think Gauntlet is a blast to play with 4-players. Or any of the 4-player beat-em-ups like the 2 D&D games, Captain Commando, TMNTs, etc.

i've only played it in mame, so i don't have much call mentioning it considering it isn't fully emulated yet, but:

The Outfoxies - it sort of plays like the Smash Bros games, but the characters are all messed up. and it is extremely violent. oh and did i mention the stages are constantly changing providing quite a bit of variety of settings?

it is seriously tons of fun. everyone i've played it with has enjoyed it immensely. :D

Outfoxies is pretty good, it really deserves an update with 4 players gameplay.

I think no one here has played Mashed at all? You guys really should try it out. There's no way you guys would not recommend it if you had platyed it (the Nexzr syndrome :D)

Mashed is awesome. I think the game was made by the same developers who did the Micro Machines games, so it's really a continuation of the series (as opposed to a clone).

The last game I played that I would consider a party game is Devil Dice. Actually, any game in the Devil Dice series (Devil Dice/Bombastic/Xi Coliseum) since they all have the Wars mode that can be played with up to five people at once. Gathering four others to match up dice faces on the playing field will result in an experience that rivals Bomberman multiplayer.
captain ahar wrote:The Outfoxies
Upon your recommendation, I just played it.

Holy shit, it's Super Smash Rolling Thunder. Just from watching the gameplay, you can tell that everyone involved with this focused a lot on giving it personality because the entire game has this completely ridiculous, over-the-top action flick feel to it and it ends up being stylish as all hell.

Regardless of whether or not The Outfoxies fell under the radar back when it was released in 1994, I feel so guilty for the sole reason of not hearing about such a game until now.

Min gave me this for FREE a couple years ago.

ON TOPIC,
The only games I can play with people who are not games players:

Wii Sports
Carnival Games
Baseball Stars 2 (Neo-Geo)
Tennis 2k2
and
NHL Hockey… (NHL 1998 and NHL 2001)

Only if the guys somehow had lefted Codemasters or something. I am not even sure the same people have been developing the whole series all along. The team behind Mashed is a team I had never heard before, so maybe those guys were ex-codemasters coders or something.

If that's the case, that would explain why Micro Machines V4 feels so much soulless.

Also, PixelJunk Racers (PS3) is mad fun, but it really requires a HD-display (the cars are very small and mix up easily).

Godzilla: Unleashed (Wii).

Pretty crappy game overall, solo player mode is completely worthless. Multiplayer, on the other hand, is utterly hilarious and great fun. I mean, there's four giant monsters beating the crap out of each other, what's there not to love?
