28, and still shmuppin'!!...

Post by dave4shmups »

Yep, I hit the big 2-8 today! :D Got some shmups for my PSTwo: Gradius V, Gradius III and IV, R-Types, R-Type Delta, Raycrisis, The Raiden Project, Mobile Light Force 1 and 2, and Einhander! :D

That lot outta keep me busy for a while!

I can still remember my first shmup-2600 Asteriods! :D And thanks to this site, I've been able to find out about quite a few shmups I never even new existed!

Future gaming/shmup plans? Well, I just have a PSTwo for now, but I'd definately like to get a Cube, and possibly an XBOX as well. I realize that doesn't sound very "hardcore" in terms of shmupping, but I love 3D games as well, and I highly doubt I'll be moved at all to go beyond this generation of consoles. Plus the shmups, and borderliners, available on these 3 consoles are really enough for me.

Thanks everyone! :D Yeah Rob, I know I've said "I'll get such-and-such and that'll be it", but, especially with the Freeloader and the Gameboy Player; there's SO much to like about the Cube! And I really like the XBOX controllers Microsoft has on the systems now a LOT better then the original controllers-plus it has great Sega support, and we may yet see Xyanide! :D

I do kinda regret not having any cartridge-based systems; at least with those you don't have to worry about lasers dying on you, and such.

Dave, you're only 18 days older than me! I turn 28 on the 27th of this month.

My first shmup was Xevious that I saw at a Baskin-Robbins ice cream store in Okinawa in 1982. I also saw the vector Star Wars game there, which was an upright version.

The real question is are you ever too young to Shmup? I'll turn 8 next month and I love these things. I want to get my brother to play them too (he's 9 months) but he can't hold the controller right, grrr. :?

for real? Your postings sound a lot more reasonable than I would expect an 8 year old to be capable of.

Happy birthday dave!

As long as the internet hasn't collapsed, I hope you see you and everyone else in 10 years! Maybe by then I'll have actually 1CC'ed the first loop of Gradius V :)

B. You're not, and I'll be forever ridiculed at shmups.com for having the wool pulled over my eyes so easily.

I don't drink, but the whole age thing happens to me a lot. I also generally look about 10 years younger than I am. Add in the fact that I am about 5'6" (about the height of the average 15-year-old male), I sometimes get mistaken for a high-schooler. People usually say I look about 18-21.

I don't believe you for a second.

Of course, I'm especially suspicious of stuff like this - I lie about my age, sex, race, etc. all the time on the internet. It's fun.

I just turned 29. I think my shmup life changed when I finally got the home port of R-type on the turbografx. I remember having the shitty master system version too actually but it was the close to arcade turbografx port that had me glued to the TV. I eventually got the turbografx with the cd-rom and back in the days you were a PIMP if you could afford that. There was a videogame import shop in my neighborhood called video games unlimited which went under about 7 years ago. In the "pre" ebay era (late eighties) I ordered super-rtype cd for the pc engine cd and really enjoyed those cinematic scenes they included. My very first import shmup purchase on the mega drive/genesis was Dangerous Seed. Gosh, this is really going back in the day. I guess you got me flash-backing. time to go to work like an adult (still don't feel like one)
