Namco System 2 PCB - anyone got one?

Post by system11 »

That would be games such as:
Rolling Thunder 2
Dragon Saber
Ordyne
Cosmo Gang The Video
etc

I have one here, and in the sound section there's a missing cap. It's rather worrying as I'm sure the sound was ok, but I guess it can't be if that cap is missing. It's not even broken off, it has been removed. Near the heatsink is the largest cap on the board, C72 - I could do with finding out what rating this is please.

As requested, I have a System 2 pcb of one of my favorite comical shooters, "Cosmo Gang the Video". Here is the section that you want to see, and that cap at C72 is also missing, so it must be a different problem for you, Maybe a cold solder joint/connection.

Mine is a Cosmo Gang the Video also (awesome game!) and it has the cap I mentioned. Strange.

Had a discussion with a friend, it's a filter cap for the amp 12v. The likelyhood is that the solder joins cracked and the caps came loose. Just a misleading coincidence to see it happen on two identical boards.

I'll be fitting one later.

Edit: done - no change, even pulled it out while the game was running, no audible difference. Then I soldered it in properly - it's supposed to be there, after all.

I am a fan of the Namco System 2 hardware. I currently have Dragon Saber and Burning Force, which I cross converted (ROM swap) just to see how difficult it would be. HUGE pain in the ass. Not only do you have to swap the ROMs, you have to change some jumpers on the board based on the placement of the new ROMs.

The ability to adjust the treble and bass is great. The quality of the audio is excellent.

My Ordyne pcb does not have that component either.
