Is there an easy way to reset a monitor?

Post by Mortificator »

So someone using my machine messed around with pretty much every monitor setting while running Pac-Man in MAME ("I thought it was supposed to fill the whole screen!"). For some reason, the "recall" button doesn't work while at the game's native 224 by 288, and no changes made at the desktop's normal 1024 by 768 carry over.

It's not a huge deal, since I can eyeball it back to near the original settings, but it would be good if I could just restore the defaults. Any suggestions?

Naw, that doesn't change anything. I guess the monitor stores its settings in non-volatile memory. But thanks for the suggestion.

I thought there might be some trick kung-fu to resetting monitors, but I guess not. Oh well. I can live with the settings being not quite factory-perfect.

From what I remember, one of my old monitors had a setting for each video mode. If recall doesn't work, maybe that's just the monitor's default for that mode? Try changing it a bit, then recalling the original settings. Otherwise, try to grab the service manual for your monitor, there might be some tricks in there.
