If I Suck At Most Of The Bullet Hells, Should I Buy ESPg?
I was looking to get ESPgaluda, because I am a collector and I love the genre, but I am nowhere near as good as probably any on this site. Any ideas if I should buy this game or not? Will it be hard to find and is it a game where practice will get me nice at it?

if you aren't good at the game the angry stares of a million cash-poor ubergamers will bore deep into your soul
Seriously, what's the problem? If you can enjoy a game whilst sucking at it (like I do), then get it.

well I just wanna make sure its a good game as well, I don't wanna get stuck with like a Last Hope (expensive rare game that sucks). I enjoy the hell out of ikaruga and triggerheart and I suck, lol. So if you all think this is an enjoyable game and worth it, I don't mind picking it up. Is this hard to come by at all?

First off, I must say, if you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong. Being good or sucking ass aren't necessarily a factor (though for some people it might be... Not for me though, I love these games, and I too suck utterly).
Anyways, if you're not good at shooters, particularly manics, all the more reason to pick up ESPgaluda. It's hailed as Cave's most accessible shooter, and is the perfect manic to cut your teeth on, so to speak.

ESPGaluda is great indeed. Can't think of a better way to start practicing at manic shooters. Infinite continues, a scoring system that's easy to get used to, simple bullet patterns with big gaps between them, auto-bombing when you're on Kakusei Mode... it's just a great game to practice and become better and better at the genre. Besides, it's good-looking, the soundtrack rocks and the character designs are fantastic.
But be warned: it starts off really easy (compared to most of the other stuff, at least), but around the last level it becomes a big challenge even to more skilled players. And the last boss is a pain in the ass. >_>

Seems you allready ordered it, but just throwing in my 2c :p

I find autobomber features can make you somewhat blasé about dodging bullets. A lot of the time when playing in Mushi Arrange and Blue Wish resurrection, I find myself lurching into bullet storms without really looking for a way out, because technically I have like 12 starting chances to complete the game.
Manual bombing helps you to play in a more cautious style, that can later be refined for scoring play once the safest routes have been guaged.
Just my 2p.

Haha, those newer Cave games don't exist to us regular folks, even Ketsui is a mythological artifact!Chi_Ryu wrote:In terms of difficulty, *Second* most accessible shooter, nowadays (thanks to Death Smiles)... unless you mean accessible in terms of easiest (and cheapest) to get hold of XDArvandor wrote:It's hailed as Cave's most accessible shooter
But yeah, echoing the others, Espgaluda is a class game.

That could work too, although the auto-bombing arrange doesn't prepare you for the stress of Maniac so well (you start more powered up than its possible to be in the main game too, so it wouldn't really give you practice dodging all the boss patterns as they die too quickly)Ruldra wrote:I'd say Mushi Arrange is more effective on that part. Auto-bomb will really give you the confidence needed to dodge bullets.henry dark wrote:Espgaluda will teach you how to play maniac shooters.
Well, I guess Kakusei mode can archieve that too...

Just throwing out another recommendation where it isn't necessary.
I suck at most bullet hell games (I can't finish Mushi Arrange, for example, and can't even pass stage 3 of either Ibara or DOJ). But I have more fun with Galuda than I've had with most games...in any genre. The gameplay system is fantastic, the music and graphics are top-notch, and the scoring isn't impossible for even mere mortals like myself to pull off. Plus, I can actually reach the final boss. =)

You know, for some reason, I am MUCH better at Ibara than a lot of other Cave titles. I don't have any idea why. I'm mince meat in DOJ. I guess I just play Ibara enough to get decent at it. I've noticed since I de-interlaced it that I have an easier time seeing the bullets and dodging them, so that's helped.Shatterhand wrote:Ibara isn't a good example either, I find it harder than DOJ.
But on topic, yes, you should get ESP Galuda. It is genuinely the best game to cut your teeth on for manics. It even has a "slow down" ability that will allow you to put all the bullets in slow motion for a limited amount of time. Very helpful for someone new and/or trying to improve at the genre. And it is a very fun game.
Enjoy.

You maybe click better with Raizing games than Cave ones. Athoulgh to be quit honest, I do play Batrider, Garegga and Bakraid a lot better than any Cave game, and Ibara still kicks my assevil_ash_xero wrote:You know, for some reason, I am MUCH better at Ibara than a lot of other Cave titles. I'm not exactly just getting into manic shmups, but I think I'm going to make ESPgaluda my first 1cc.
I've put a decent amount of time into Shikigami 2 and Triggerheart Exelica but never got a 1cc in either. (Level 3 in THE and 3-1 in Shikigami 2) And I've played a TON of other shmups less seriously.
I think I'm gonna play ESPgaluda exclusively for a while and stick with it, and hopefully I can make some decent progress.
