Pretty much hilarity though that someone who lives to write game reviews and screams "reviews should be critical" until they're blue in the face can not only not take a single bit of criticism, but is hypocritical enough to tell me I can't read when if he would've grasped my original post to it's fullest, he would've never found himself in such a shit storm.GP's conduct in particular was totally unacceptable. WTF ragging on me for 3 pages because he never learned to read, and when I told him to leave me alone and learn some English he went through my reviews with a magnifying glass to find a single mistake, and when he couldn't find anything he comes back saying that I did not MENTION this one thing from the strategy guide! And to cap it all off the illiterate bastard had the nerve to compare my site to IGN. To IGN! Totally unacceptable behavior. And all for what? Because he misread one of my sentences, and when I told him so his pride was hurt to such a degree, that he simply HAD to find a way to get back at me. People do not get much pettier than this, nor much stupider.
Oh, well. Such is the internet.

I say it all the time sarcastically (you're English -- you should appreciate that). Not sure if that's the case here. How would I know? I'm stupid, right?stupider? is that a word, GP? (sorry, i'm askin' the wrong blokejpj wrote: Oh, well. Such is the internet.)

Which is probably why there was so much fuss about his ban. It is important to defend right wing extremists who speak against democracy, to cultivate one's sense of superiority (and keep the svastikas in the closet). Icycalm, on the other hand, spent his time here to tackle down the aforementioned sense of superiority (in a way that I find dubious, but whatever: he may be right, who knows...).Twiddle wrote:honestly i don't know why fighter17 getting banned caused so much anal leakage and this didn't, it's not like icycalm spent several fucking pages on why black people look and act like monkeys
Mods in both cases checked the ability to stick to rules about politeness etc. Bloodflowers seems to have a precise and decent sense on how to carry out the "totalitarian" task of ruling out the ones who can't behave, unlike the merry pranksters who donned their KKK cape and defended the little dumb kid with the submarine avatar.
But ehi, everyone likes to feel cool by being unmutual.

Sorry GP, but you're wrong. Calling people 'monkeys' because their skin is slightly darker than yours is not particularly subtle, nor really acceptable (modulo civilization, democracy or whatever big word may make my point fancier!). It is irrelevant that they're not not some of us (guys on the shmups forum club), it is still out of place. Bloodf seems not to care at all about these tribalisms and, as far as I am concerned, he is perfectly right in doing so.GaijinPunch wrote:Fighter17 was at least clever about insulting people. Whoa, I'm gone for a couple of days and look what happens! Icy is finally gone?!? Wonders never cease!
Icy was cool up until about a year ago, but lately he's just been a complete asshole, totally derailing topics into minutia and four-letter words, calling people illiterate idiots because they thought he said "a" instead of "the", etc. Apparently BF et al. finally had enough. Good riddance I say.
Okay, I'm done now. I feel so much better.

Well, I didn't hear the monkeys comment, obviously. But you have to admit a lot of his posts, like using statistics to make racist comments are a lot harder to justify than flat out four letter words. It doesn't make them any better, and indeed, Fighter has some serious real world experience to gain.Randorama wrote: Sorry GP, but you're wrong. Agreed, although his attempts to adapt statistics for racism shows that he feels justified. Yum, closet racism. Though I don't think that was the main issue, said individuals can actually not intend to be racist (they're probably just extremely ignorant) but not be bothered by intense and pervasive racist and other prejudiced statements.Randorama wrote:Which is probably why there was so much fuss about his ban. Icyclam never actually cared about racist statements and had his pedophile friends (with brandon "i like preteens" sheffield's silent approval) flood out a forum full of people whom seem to have wanted a laid-back general games community instead of a hentai game jerkfest. It's not good to simplify what he does to that sense.Icycalm, on the other hand, spent his time here to tackle down the aforementioned sense of superiority (in a way that I find dubious, but whatever: he may be right, who knows...).
There are people just as worthy for banning according to the rules, but they keep us around because we're funny sometimes, or because they agree with us.Mods in both cases checked the ability to stick to rules about politeness etc. Bloodflowers seems to have a precise and decent sense on how to carry out the "totalitarian" task of ruling out the ones who can't behave, unlike the merry pranksters who donned their KKK cape and defended the little dumb kid with the submarine avatar.
Internet apathy, as well as other phenomena, is all part of a well-off populace's ability to rationalize terrible shit happening until it is too late. Like the fact that the current administration went into tons of underhanded shit to get what they wanted (a massive funneling of state money into defense contractors and other assorted corporate interests) and people were conditioned to think that it was business as usual (which may have always been the case, one example being the roman empire's slow death through the "bread and circuses" period.)But ehi, everyone likes to feel cool by being unmutual.

I agree, but overall there is the whole issue of good manners and whatnot. An internet forum is usually much more 'binary' than any specific legal system (unless you're on neo-geo.com or similia), since a small infraction or a huge one, if they fall beyond the ban limit, trigger said practice on the infringing user.GaijinPunch wrote:

I am actually 'reprinting' some of my stuff on insomnia and overall think I would be easily friends with Alex, it's just that by the rules endorsed here, any aggressive behavior is out. I would never ever compare Alex's infringements to Fighter17's. Was this to be (ack! No!) neo-geo.com, only Fighter17 would have deserved a perm-ban, unlike everyone else. Oh, and a throughout raping by a collective of deaf donkeys*, so its brain would have gone back to its original place.
On the other hand, more than closet racism, it's about sheer ignorance, I agree with Twiddle. As I said somewhere else, one's logic may be perfect, but fed with the wrong input, it produces junk. Set membership ("one of us") is a remarkably weak parameter, to post on a forum.

Stupid is as stupid does, there was a time I agree where Icy was a suave fellow, but then his temper (ature) was no longer running cool.
This thread reminds me (or Ed's post), I should join Gamengai sometime.

i thought fighter17 and icycalm were banned for pretty much the same reason? they kept trolling and derailing threads with personal vendettas ?
afaik F17 wasent banned for his personal wievs on the world, that would be very sad if its the case no matter how twisted they were.

Well, in a way he was, and in a way he wasn't. It really depends how you look at it.sven666 wrote:afaik F17 wasent banned for his personal wievs on the world, that would be very sad if its the case no matter how twisted they were.
Were his views narrow minded, deplorable religious dogma of the worst kind? Yes.
Did he have to try stating them at every opportunity, offending half the posters in the process and causing endless arguments? No.
So, it was his beliefs that got him into trouble. If he hadn't felt the need to ram them down peoples throats, or if he believed something less offensively stupid, then he'd still be here.
At the end of the day it doesn't matter really, because we all saw what happened, and what had to happen as a result.
