Souky, Salamander Deluxe (3 games), Dodonpachi, Parodius Deluxe (2 games), Gradius Deluxe (2 games), Konami Antiques MSX (30 games total, around 7 shmups, and only $10
), Layer Section, Game Tengoku, Strikers 1945 I, Strikers 1945 II, Radiant Silvergun (however, if you are outraged by $60 Salamander, i am sure you would disagree on this one). shall i go on?
and i am ignoring a better port of Gunbird (as far as i have heard anyway). i own it on Saturn, and am not about to buy it again on PS2 to find out for myself.

Just done some Sega Saturn Ebay searches.
Souky = Not 1 available
Salamander = not 1 available
Dodonpachi = $39-$90 and jpn only,all in USA.
Parodius = 4 or 5 available £15+
Gradius = not worth the money when Gradius V is on PS2
Layer Section = 3 available ,jpn only, price at mo £5+
Game Tengoku = 1 available from jpn, obviously jpn spec
1945 = I've already got 1945 I&II on PS2
Radiant Silvergun = 4 available £40 - £120
I did national and international searches.
I don't exactly see many reasons to get a Saturn in the UK.

you asked me to list some games better than the ones you mentioned, so i did at a disregard for region or price. i am in the us and i have a jp saturn, that is how i play them. whether or not you are willing to make the commitment is none of my business. the only reason why i got involved in the first place is because your previous comments boiled down to older implying worse.
i am not angry, by the way so i hope you understand i am not on some 'petrolhead tirade'. i just vehemently disagree with you in several key ways.

Gradius on Saturn = 6 available in the world on Ebay, all jpn versions.
Not exactly a great selection to choose from.
I don't even know why i answered to be honest, getting a jpn Saturn or getting a PAL Saturn to run jpn games is an unviable option in the UK.
Too expensive and the games are usually either in the US or JPN and almost always overpriced.
I love playing shmups, i'm just not blinded enough to pay through the nose for the pleasure.

You've obviously had some bad experiences with overrated games on older consoles, and that's understandably frustrating. I don't see why you're writing them off though, I mean, Gamecube over Saturn? C'mon. There's really no comparison there. Saturn's arguably up there with the ps2 for best shooter console...it's one of the best for 2d fighters as well.I love playing shmups, i'm just not blinded enough to pay through the nose for the pleasure.
You have to pay more, yes. But you're getting better games.
Since it seems to be the cost scaring you off, I recommend you mame a few games. A great deal of Saturn's finest are available on this emulator...give it a spin and then tell me how Animal Crossing compares

Animal Crossing? never played it.
RE4 is whats in the GC at the moment.
Psyvariar on PS2.
And Tomb Raider Chronicles on the DC.
Yeah i know, what on the DC????, when i could have..........
Gonna get the hang of buzzing on Psyvariar, watched the video's of a pro,looks interesting....
I think that getting all these games on Saturn is possible in the US, but not a reality in the UK unless your willing spend very large amounts.
The reality is also that all the DC shmups that are recommended are almost impossible to get hold off as well, this being the reason for my lack of DC shmups as well(he heh got a fishing rod though).
The PS2 has got plenty available(getting Steel Dragon ex and Gunbird se tomorrow) and are easy to get hold off.

Indeed. Psikyo collection volume 3, in combination with Gunbird SE should keep you occupied for quite some time, depending on how far you want to go with them.

I'm just encouraging you not to write off all the older systems. I got my Japanese Saturn for US $20 (that's I think less than 10 british pounds). You can try out the games you'd be interested in in MAME and see which ones would be worth it for you.
